I replaced the bearings on my record power lathe (coronet 0 i think it is) and got them from www.bearingsrus.co.uk. Also worth buying a new drive belt whilst you are there are well, the place above sells them. think it came to around £15 for 2 bearings and the belt. I bought these so...

    Bearing replacement - bugger

all ordered. emailed them and they rang to get payment so they could add the belt, saves another P&P charge. came out at £14.10 all in, 2 SKF bearings and whatever the belt is. Annoying, as the bearing only seemed to go noisy after a catch on the chuck, but when they were both removed they...

I need to get some high grit to make my lathe creations super smooth, so wondering if there are any sources that people like that work well and are cheaper than high st stores. I had some from B&Q, JCB branded sanding mesh, worked really well but costs a small fortune, so anything similar...

Advice on purchasing a couple of tools and sharpening

Hi all, bit of a break since my last post, a slight reorganisation in work in july means i now am back in uni and doing teacher training so less time than before (was a work from home IT consultant), and the lathe has not been touched, mainly as the tools need sharpening after a couple of...

    New to Woodturning

read here lots! but record power and 'coronet' are some brands that crop up on ebay and elsewhere, they may be older but built like tanks so will be fine. When looking consider what you need and your budget, whilst some may come with limited tools and wood you may need sharpening equipment...

few questions about my 'new to me' record power No 0

ok, i have just found some wood and shimmed the rear up. now it seems to be spot on now, but checking the headstock spur that seems to 'run out' hence the confusion, but that is the centre pin so probably all ok for my needs, and i put the johnson chuck in there and checked and it is hitting...

few questions about my 'new to me' record power No 0

no i didn't test the level TBH. just checked and it was almost level on the bars but the centre was out, but putting a shim in it makes it level now, but the bars are now quite obviously not level to the worktop, and on the spirit level the bars are touching the 2nd ring. anyhow will take a...
