    Battery re-celling or repairing

have you googled for a new battery, as said, bodging old batteries together will cause other issues and may not be reliable, so buying new may work. http://www.sipuk.co.uk/nailers-spareparts.html what batteries are in it? if old then highly likely nicad, so you cant replace with NIMH cells as...

    Battery re-celling or repairing

You need a big soldering iron, so it doesnt loose heat quickly, a general purpose one won't be big enough. I think it is similar to http://www.axminster.co.uk/weller-sp80n ... th-led-80w but may be an expense for a one off job. But it has good heat and big tip so plenty of heat for quick melts...

pillar drill belt unit safety switch question..

Hi all, have a pillar drill, bought is used and think probably low end n price wise. Anyhow, the switch that works when the top cover is closed has failed and not reparable. So essentiallywhen the ccover is down, it won't turn on. I have bypassed this by a fitting a bit of wire with 2 spade...

    Phillips Screws

All as above, but break any paint seal and should be OK, but time consuming. A sharp knife to cut the paint and it should pick off as well.

Kinzo bench grinder 8E405 : worth keeping or selling?

Hi all, i have acquired (well its been on the parents shelf for a LONG time) a Kinzo 8e405 bench grider. It used to belong to a long gone Uncle. Condition wise it looks to be really good for its age, and i fired it up and it works well spins up to speed (more on this later!) and has 2 wheels...

What did we ge for Xmas 2014 then???

Got myself a screwfix titan impact driver. built some raised beds, seemed to struggle with the long screws though compared to my 18v drill driver, with partial pilot hles, but may just have been that job as I expecteted it to put the screws in without fuss. Lots of noise and went sloiw, but...

I have some F clamps, but no more. So what ones do you all find useful for most of your clamping work? I will be using it t o glue wood and keep it stable, attach to workbench for saw ing and keeping wood stable. No idea what style, make or material is generally thought asdecent quality. Ta

    tortoise table

I made one for our Leopard, was VERY easy. a sheet of MDF, IIRC it was 3/4" and was a standard sheet size in B&Q, cant remember exact but was probably 1.5M longish by 80cm or so (dont quote me!) then each sidewall was butt jointed, 2 planks high of pine square planed. Screwed from the...

Forstner bits - any advanced tips and tricks?

Andy, i did think of that, but decided this route, but can always try a similar process with a bit of plank to see how it works :)

Forstner bits - any advanced tips and tricks?

thanks all, yes i didn't expect a £3 plank from B&Q to be the best to work with and as i know it is likely to tear, will remember that. CHJ - What pattern of so called Forstener bits do you have? -dunno - sawtooth i think (http://www.screwfix.com/p/forstner-bits ... -set/83345) Original...

Forstner bits - any advanced tips and tricks?

Hi all, after a long time without any woodwork (house move and finally starting to get straight!) i have made a simple ping-pong ball holder for the better half, basically a strip of pine, 12 holes, all rounded off with the router and then as it was cheap pine, got some 'dark oak' wood dye just...

kitchen worktop cutting with a jig and whatnot..

Hi all, thought I would ask here as googleing brings up loads of confusing info! I need to cut a L shape kitchen worktop, so will need to use a router jig to get it cut to size. So you all know the drill(no pun intended)! I have a 1\4" router, 1200 watt, don't have a cutting jig, or a guide...

    freehand routing

I tried to freehand route once with a bit without a plot bearing, very difficult to keep it from wandering and ruining the job. Also the router bit is spinning at many thousands rpm, by the time you realise something is wrong it is for the bin a second before.

    small workspaces, show me yours!

Thanks all, just visited the house again for a measure up, and the space is quite smaller than I remembered, I think it is about 1.2m by 1.8m, so very small. But once we are settled I think it could be used well. I am not a fine woodsmith so don't need anything fancy, but probably a L shaped...

    Shabby Chic or Shabby ****?

Demand....plenty of people willing to part money just to have the ability to discuss their latest purchase. As someone once told me, if you are surprised how much someone can make by selling something you can make, then why are you not making and selling? But generally, put 'art' in the title...
