    Woodland charcoal making

Have been experimenting recently with making charcoal from smaller left over bits of last year's hazel coppicing. Most of the cut hazel goes for firewood if oversized, or beanpoles and stakes for the garden, but rather than put the smaller gnarly bits on the dead hedging or wildlife piles...

    New hip anybody?

Had to have one of mine done at a relatively young age, early forties, legacy of a motorbike accident as a teenager ! Twenty years on and still going well, touch wood ! Transformed daily life for me, just the rest of me is struggling to keep up now ! 😂😂

More Parkside rubbish! This time, a cordless chainsaw that's actually an Einhell

MSA 120, sales guy tried to get me to go further up the range for a bigger bar and more power etc but I specifically wanted light and manoeuvrable for the overstood hazel coppicing rather than duplicating the bigger petrol saws I already have. That pile of 8 to 12" beech in the background I...

More Parkside rubbish! This time, a cordless chainsaw that's actually an Einhell

Not so these days, the battery tech has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and there are very decent battery chainsaws out there now, although often more expensive than the petrol equivalents ! I bought the smallest, lightest Stihl one to use in hazel coppicing where being able to pick...

Time for a new Drill & Impact driver....what's your thoughts?

Oh, so just the one product then, the track saw ? I'll avoid that then, anything else ?

Time for a new Drill & Impact driver....what's your thoughts?

Curious what the serious quality issues might be ? Supply issues in the current climate of covid workplace shutdowns and brexit challenges may well be common everywhere to be fair.

Time for a new Drill & Impact driver....what's your thoughts?

I've had various bits of kit from dewalt, makita, metabo and ryobi over the years, all good except for ryobi ! :) When I wanted to change with the battery tech a few years ago though I went with bosch blue as I liked the details on some of the key tools, the range available and the prices...

Has anyone modified a startrite352 upper guide/guard adjustment?

I don't recognise your description of the process to be honest. On mine it's a simple twist of the locking knob, raise or lower the assembly, then twist the knob to lock again, simple, quick and easy ! Maybe do a short video of what the problem is so we can see what's going on ?

    Reverse chucking

Forget the chuck, unless you have endless patience to fiddle around with it, do as much work between centres as you can and then finish the ends off the lathe would be my suggestion :)

    Spalted Beech Rolling pin.?

Personally I would not be the least bit concerned if the wood is sound enough and not too far gone and punky. I have been making and using spalted beech plates, bowls, spatulas and spoons for a few decades now quite happily :)

    Walnut Boards

Yes, some English walnut boards that were milled by me and have been seasoning in my woodstore for fifteen years or so, decided it was about time to do something with them ! :)

    Walnut Boards

Lots of walnut chopping/serving/charcuterie/bread boards, well why not ! Fun to make and pleasing and nice to look at :)

    tuff saw alternative

Sounds like it will only be a few days while they catch up, personally I would wait as I've only been disappointed in the past with axminster and others alternatives so wouldn't know who else to suggest. https://www.tuffsaws.co.uk/ I always try and have a spare blade or two of each...

Scrapers - why not go negative

The negative rake scraper section starts about 50 minutes in, very interesting :)

    Air cleaner/filter unit.

I've had a Microclene and a jet one for years. Never replaced any of the filters on them despite maybe 15 to 20 years regular use and a lot of dust ! What I do instead is take the filters outside and blow them clean with compressed air for the jet ones, coupled with occasional vacuuming of the...
