If you are following a template then choose one with a bearing on top or bottom to suit. Cheers, Paul

CUTTING A CIRCLE WITH A ROUTER

Just a normal two flute straight cutter would work fine. You can get up or down spiral cutters too for particular applications but I would try a normal basic cutter first. Cheers, Paul

    Nail gun to replace screws

Small compressor and 18 gauge nail gun together with glue will work fine, toe-nail the nails in at different angles too just for extra holding power although probably not necessary. Cheers, Paul

    More Makita mayhem!

I took the plunge recently and upgraded from 12v NiMh to 18v L ion and thought long and hard about it. I've got loads of Makita kit, 12v drill drivers, impact driver, planer, chainsaw, sds drill etc and really rate their stuff. In the end though I went for Bosch for the 18v combi drill...

    paypal gift

Some forums I'm on don't allow sellers to ask for payment by paypal gift, it can leave the buyer with no come back via paypal if goods aren't received or are faulty, and I think it also potentially has come back on the forum too ? I pulled out of a purchase on here recently as the seller wanted...

Taking your life in your hands

These kind of shorts Steve http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baleaf-Coolmax- ... ing+shorts The picture shows them inside out by the way, right way round they are a lot less alarming and under normal shorts don't notice at all, but make a big difference to comfort after a few miles :) Cheers, Paul

Taking your life in your hands

Well worth spending a few quid on padded cycling shorts Steve, I got some a few weeks ago and wear them under my normal shorts, make a big difference to comfort, wish I'd done it ages ago. Also, you'll be surprised how quickly you improve on dealing with the hills, each ride out I find I can do...

    Record Power RSBS14 user manual/instructions

Is there anything in particular you want to know about ? Manuals for machines like this seldom really tell you anything useful, probably better to ask on here ? Cheers, Paul

Recommend finish for cocobolo awl handle please.

Sanding down to a fine grit and buffing on a polishing mop will give a surprisingly good polished finish as the grain is nice and tight and hard. Cheers, Paul

    easy wood

They don't have to be expensive, there's one or more threads on here somewhere about buying the tips and making your own shafts. They are very effective for fast stock removal. Cheers, Paul

Are these jaws a good idea ?

That's odd Rob, it can't not be central if you've marked the centre when turning the spigot initially and then use the tailstock centre in that mark ? You do end up with a small bit left to remove after, I use a sanding pad and arbour either mounted in the chuck or in a cordless drill and it...

Are these jaws a good idea ?

The donut method is perfectly good too but a bit slow and faffing around fiddling with bits and pieces. The disc method works great, very quick and simple and you're done in a couple of minutes :) If you have deep vases or bowls with an irregular rim then make a longish cylinder to mount in...

Are these jaws a good idea ?

Those would do fine Graham to make your own, or just knock up a simple thick ply or mdf large disc, maybe double thickness to reduce flex but probably not necessary, and screw and glue a spigot on the back to hold it in your existing chuck jaws. Bring the tailstock up and centre the point of the...

    Workshop dust filters

I too have a couple, a Jet (like the Axi) and a Microclene but for preference tend to use the Jet as it seems less noisy, or possibly as Rod says is on a different frequency. They are both very effective though. You need to minimise the amount of dust getting into the air in the first place...

    My water bill

Hi Reg, can you turn the stopcock in the house off for a while, half hour or hour perhaps, and see if the meter reading changes at all in that time ? If the meter still changes with the stopcock off then either the meter is faulty or there is a leak between the meter and the house stopcock. I...
