Perhaps you're putting too acute an edge on ? Might be worth trying a less steep angle or convexing the edge ? Mine don't blunt more easily than any other knives that I have, except for some of the more exotic steel blades like a wee Fallkniven folder (TK4) that has a blade of 3G powdered steel...

The Trevor Ablett knives are generally thought of as "working" knives rather than high quality pieces, functional but may be a bit hit or miss on quality and fit and finish. Taylors Eye Witness are generally a bit better but can still dissapoint on occasion, but plenty of different makes and...

Home made feather boards are easy to make and just as effective as mentioned. I've also never found a need for installing a track on mine, instead I use small home made sleds if necessary sliding against the fence (so no need to mess around trying to ensure the fence is parallel to the track...
