    Need to Finish?

Personally I would be wary of oiilng it unless you will be happy with it turning darker and yellowish over time, all the different types of oils and brands I've tried do that. It doesn't matter on darker timbers but can really change lighter ones like ash, sometimes the yellowing taking a few...

    Preseli Laburnum

Lovely piece Kim, you've done a great job with a very challenging piece of timber ! Cheers, Paul

    Ebay/Argos

I think it's targeted largely at those who aren't at home all day to receive doorstep deliveries and would like to be able to collect from somewhere reasonably close by when convenient for them, rather than perhaps having to traipse to their local PO or courier depot which might not be so nearby...

    Reclaimed pine coffee table

Looks great and really satisfying to recycle stuff, bet your inlaws will be chuffed :) I kept some old rafters from when we had our loft conversion done many years ago, and a few years back I ran some through the bandsaw and planer thicknesser and table saw to make some traditional style...

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

Some more good advice, thank you Scrimper, hopefully sorted for now but will keep that in mind in case of any further issues with this or indeed other motors. Cheers, Paul

    Dust/Chip Extractor at Rutlands.

I wouldn't want to use a machine like that with a relatively coarse filter bag for collection of sawdust and fine dust, a lot of it would end up going through the bag filter and back into the workshop atmosphere. It's only really suitable for chippings/coarse shavings from a thicknesser/planer...

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

All sorted :) When I opened up the motor casing there was piles of fine dust inside ! Explains why on start up yesterday it had started blowing some fine dust out which I had thought was just dust that had settled on the rim and been blown off. Vacuumed it all out and blew off all parts of the...

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

No spare car bits unfortunately Chas, lots of other junk though  I guess there aren't different ratings or capacities of brushes then, as long as I can get or adjust a pair to the right size (and can make a clip or solder connection ) then it should work okay, so just need to go on the...

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

The switch is illuminated and still lights up, but the motor doesn't start every time, although it has started after a few attempts. I think that means the switch is probably okay ? Or maybe it means power to the switch but not necessarily after it ? The casing does seem to get hotter than I...

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

Good idea given they are not the fiver or so I expected! I'll take a proper look tomorrow. Have made an enquiry with somewhere else also that I found on Google so see what they say also..... Cheers, Paul

    Replacement carbon brushes ?

Think the carbon brushes on my Record Power DX1500 dust extractor are just about worn out as it is sometimes not starting last couple of days. I've had it since 2001 and used it heavily though so not too bad I guess  Having just called Record to check prices they are £30 for a pair...

what do you use on your diamond stone

Same here Paul, I use WD40 for preference but don't think it matters particularly, and have been using different versions of the DMT and other stones for many years quite happily, likewise a couple of Spyderco ceramic stones. Cheers, Paul

    Camvac

Sounds like a good approach. I purchased an oil drum (couldn't find any knocking around for free locally sadly !) to use as a drop box and it works well, the only problem is that it's a real struggle to handle and empty it when it needs it as it's quite large and heavy, should really have gone...

    Pen Blanks ?

It's a nice idea, and I have given away blanks of different types in the past to people who were interested and visiting, but if I did that with these then I'd have to buy in the kindling from the firewood merchants to replace them and it would end up costing me which would be ironic :lol...

    Pen Blanks ?

Not just me then Chas ! Decided that there were too many boxes and baskets and shelves with small bits and pieces on that had not been used for years and I had to be honest with myself that I couldn't envisage when they would get used ! I'll keep some of the best bits but a drastic cull is...

    Pen Blanks ?

Yes, think you're right guys, it's more to do with easing my conscience about "wasting" attractive timber that's not a size or shape I will use, rather than being a money spinner, perhaps I'll put some up on ebay and see, can always chuck them in the kindling bag after I guess ! Cheers, Paul

    Pen Blanks ?

Oh well, a lot quicker and easier to add it all to the kindling pile  Cheers, Paul
