    Wood / Tree stump identification

Painting the ends with something will help reduce end splits as it drys out, but better using pva or gloss paint, emulsion won't be as good at blocking/reducing the loss of moisture but is better than nothing if all that's at hand. Cheers, Paul

    Setting up workshop

Sometimes, but always check prices elsewhere too. They have a decent range and good customer service but I've found them increasingly uncompetitive on a range of items. Cheers, Paul

    Setting up workshop

You may well find you get more use from a bandsaw than a tablesaw, coupled with a planer/thicknesser and mitre/chop saw you probably won't miss a tablesaw that much if at all ? Cheers, Paul

    Day Out at Yandles

The pro edge is an excellent bit of kit for sharpening generally Tony and for woodturning gouges in particular, definitely a good buy. Once you have figured out the grits you use most it's probably worth buying a few from a specialist abrasives firm, around half the cost of the sorby ones ...
