    Saw blade... deflection?

Likely that the 40 tooth blade in 40mm oak is the problem, too many teeth for the thickness of material, exacerbated by trying to do partial kerf cuts, a thicker blade would help too of course. I've always found the Freud blades good, as long as you use the right blade for the task as with any...

    Using walnut oil

I's a food safe drying oil. I've used it on carved wooden spoons, bowls and plates, using the supermarket ones, they taste great in salad dressings too ! :) Takes a few weeks to cure, needs to be put on in thin coats and wiped off thoroughly to avoid a sticky build up. Doubt it would be...

Need to temporarily shorten a line by a few inches

It's an inherently unsafe knot, you can make it a bit less unsafe by adding dowels as additional possible points of failure, but why would you when there are inherently better, safer and simpler alternatives available ?🤷‍♂️

Need to temporarily shorten a line by a few inches

Be careful about using a sheepshank knot, not recommended for "critical" applications, which a 350lb loading mentioned may constitute ! https://www.animatedknots.com/sheepshank-knot Bowline on a bight as mentioned, or alpine butterfly if you prefer to use both end spliced loops although not as...

    JSP Powercap battery pack

I have one of the old JSP Powercaps, powered by 4 C cell batteries in a plastic case and attached to the helmet with the connector shown in the pic. Nothing wrong with it, I use rechargeable C batteries in it, but the case and batteries are a bit cumbersome and heavy, so thought I would try and...

    Startrite 352 Performance

The 2tpi blade, especially being wide set as well, is asking a lot from your small motor, that blade will be trying to remove a lot of material too quickly and will bog the motor down. At 3/4" it will likely be under tensioned too and with the extra set on it as well, together with forcing the...

    Startrite 352 Performance

There's a lot of variables that might contribute to the poor performance such as tpi of blade, type of wood being cut eg soft or hardwood, bark on or recycled timber, blade tension, feed rate etc. For example, too many teeth for the thickness of timber can lead to poor performance, burning and...

End Grain Hollowing, should I consider a Carbide tool?

Normal forstner bits are pretty ineffective for drilling into end grain, they heat up and blunt very quickly and cut slowly. Saw tooth forstners are better but these are very effective...
