    Cordless drill/driver

Some brand names have different ranges for different markets if that's what you mean Artie ? An easy example is the sheds tend to stock Bosch "green" tools for the diy market, perfectly adequate for occasional diy use but a different quality of product to the Bosch "blue" range aimed t...

    Cordless drill/driver

I bit the bullet recently and changed from my old 12v NiMh Makita gear as the batteries were dying on me. Loved the kit and had a fair few batteries and other tools to work with them too, so it was something I kept putting off. Decided to go with the Bosch blue stuff this time, liked the...

    Cordless drill/driver

Hi Artie, might depend on how often you use the drill and what for, trade, occasional diy etc? Cheers, Paul

    Lathe maintenance

Looks in pretty good nick Jamie :) I would just use a grease gun on any grease nipples you can see, it may not have any if the bearings are sealed for life ones, otherwise just crack on and enjoy it :) Cheers, Paul

    DIY router table question/problem

The major advantage of the XX isn't the increased reach to cope with thick tables or inserts Rob, it's the ease of cutter changing above the table, something that the Trend item doesn't have as far as I know ? How do you change cutters on your set-up ? Cheers, Paul

    DIY router table question/problem

Not sure how one of those cutters would perform normally directly in a router collet Rob as I haven't used one that size, but I would think it would be used at a suitably slow speed and with several light passes, rather than hogging material off like a spindle moulder ? With the same sensible...

Debris on bandsaw tires. Should it be a concern ?

Hi Rodders, sounds sensible in theory, but in practice I haven't had any problems using the above approach occasionally over the last fifteen or so years, so done sensibly it seems to be fine, although if scraping is not found to be too fiddly and/or ineffective (which I personally did find)...

Debris on bandsaw tires. Should it be a concern ?

Mine is much the same, as it doesn't seem to be causing any problems I just leave it rather than possibly creating a problem. If there was some loose stuff or it was creating much in the way of bumps I would lightly wire brush or coarse abrasive paper, manually with the power off obviously, but...

    DIY router table question/problem

As Andy said, routing out an area to reduce the thickness of the top is quite feasible and I used a small home made router table made that way quite happily for a few years before investing time and effort in a new table with plate etc. In my current table set up I use a Trend T11 router with...

riven versus bandsawn for wooden shingles

Interesting question Rob. Based on the lifespan of the average untreated oak bench or seat, and although the shingles would be of thinner cross-section, I would be hopeful of them lasting a good many years, particularly if used at a decent angle to help shed rainwater ? Cheers, Paul

    startrite mitre gauge

It is the same as supplied with my startrite bandsaw from new some years ago. I've never used the rod with mine, but it is supposed to be a 90 degree bend at the end (is it just the angle of the photo that makes it look an odd angle ?) and used as a stop for repeat cuts as mentioned above. If...

    Selling woodworking equipment

I've looked into these recently down here in Hampshire, and although bigger than Margaret would need a 250sq ft (20' x 12' shed equivalent approx) would cost around £110 per week, and no apparent discounting for long periods eg 6 or 12 months although I haven't tried negotiating but just based...

    Cheapskate mallet

Hi Richard, there are "sticky" posts at the top of one or more of the forum boards that explain how to post pics. I think you have to link to an offsite hosting service such as photobucket rather than upload to the forum, which may be your problem ? Cheers, Paul
