    Fresh Yew wood

Very desirable, trunk and branch wood, even two or three inch branchwood has lovely coloured heart wood and makes fine turned mushrooms ! Be very, very clear to the tree surgeons, repeatedly, and be there while they are doing it if you can be, how you want the wood cut/sized, their normal...

    Spacebarproblem!!!

Sorted !!! :) Turns out to be a presumably new extension loaded into google chrome extensions called Smooth Scroll. Must have sneaked in on an update ? Disabled that and problem now disappeared. Might go back and play with the settings on that extension and see if there are any aspects of it...

    Spacebarproblem!!!

No idea how to do that Rod, and would I lose all my favourites/bookmarks if I did ? Cheers, Paul

Switching off and on again didn't help sadly :(

    Spacebarproblem!!!

That's pretty much the problem Nelson, did try a reboot earlier with no luck, but will try again anyway I think as I don't have any other ideas ! Cheers, Paul

    Spacebarproblem!!!

Seems to be okay in emails, word etc, so maybe is a chrome issue. It lets me use the space bar here in the text area, but not in the post title, and not in the search boxes on other sites. Just started happening when I was using the laptop this morning so I guess I may have toggled some weird...

    Spacebarproblem!!!

Out of the blue, using windows 8.1 and browsing with chrome this morning, the space bar on my laptop triggers a page down movement when trying to type in search boxes on different pages like ebay, amazon etc. I thought it might be a chrome issue but as you can see it is doing the same thing in...

Sorby Edge Pro sharpening system - and current views?

The tormeks were the best bit of kit available for many years, but they are very slow and pretty messy with the water required, the stones also tend to furrow easily if not used carefully or with turning or other gouges. Then the pro-edge came along and it's a game changer. I kept my larger...

    Pruning Saw Recommendations?

Silky PocketBoy's are highly regarded by many, including me :) They are very fast cutting compared to something like a Bahco Laplander, which while it gets the job done, is hard work and slow by comparison. The Silkies cut on the pull stroke only, being Japanese, and if you are ham fisted or...

Will this work or am I barking (up the wrong tree)

Have a separate narrower board as part of the outfeed table, routed with a groove to suit, and the rest of the outfeed table surface just butted up either side of the routed piece. Flip and/or replace the major pieces either side as needed without messing with the routed section ? Cheers, Paul

    Tool Box

The one I linked to is a top quality, robust box, worlds apart from the cheaper flimsy models with lids in the lids that Stanley and others also make. Cheers, Paul

    Tool Box

These are excellent quality http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-194749- ... ley+fatmax They do a larger version too that would likely take your saw if that size doesn't. I bought a couple for long term storage of woodturning chucks and tools and was so impressed I bought a couple more for other...

    Sorby ProEdge

Likewise, find the pro-edge excellent for turning tools, all sorts of other grinding and sharpening tasks, and with the right choice of belts it's very good for plane irons and chisels too, although with them I do the final micro bevel honing by hand still just for personal preference. Every...

Billhooks & Memories... All aloooone in the mooonliiiight...

Agreed there is of course no point in being sharp for a bit of kindling bashing, in which case it just needs a strong convex bevel like a froe. For cutting tasks though I take a bit off the bevel shoulders, to make it enter the wood easier, and then keep a decent sharp convex edge on them...

Billhooks & Memories... All aloooone in the mooonliiiight...

I have a few and use them quite a lot in the garden, they are of course very effective if properly sharpened. Was using one last week to help dismantle a large rowan treee and some other shrubbery that had to come out, great for cutting down the branches and brash into smaller more manageable...

Why are clamps so expensive now?

I tend to believe that you do get what you pay for, as in many things of course ! On the Axi' "The Knowledge" blog thing that Woodbloke does he has at least three features I think that deal with issues and shortcomings on using basic record style sash cramps, including gadgets to let them sit...

    Felling Axe

There's a couple of suitable old axes here, although no bargains ! http://www.oldtools.co.uk/68-axes# Gransfors Bruks are highly regarded, Wetterlings are just as good in my experience, and Hultafors worth a look too. Cheers, Paul

Good tongue and groove router bit

Not sure I would use a hardwood if it's going to be painted. A good quality MR MDF would be a lot more stable, better value, and perfectly good for the application. I'd second Wealden for trade quality and decent value, you can buy cheaper stuff elsewhere but quality may not be similarly good...
