    Formica

A while back I ordered a sheet at my local Jewsons who got it in for me, couldn't find a stockist to collect from locally.

    Power Carving/ Sanding discs

These kind of things in the low grit spec' eat wood very quickly, last for ages and are easy to control http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+T ... isc/p67922 Wouldn't use them for hollowing out a bowl or similar deep excavation, but for seat scallops and contouring stuff you may not actually...

2017- more of the same I suspect

Love yew, always lots of visual interest in the wood. Great finish on them too Chas, how fine do you abrade to and is it then just mc wax onto the bare wood, or buffed first and wax after ?

Turning off the end of the main lathe bed

It's quite possible to remove a tenon from a large finished bowl and tidy it up off the lathe. Cut most of the waste off with a handsaw and then pare away the remainder with chisel or gouge, then sand with your normal drill mounted pads and abrasive, creating a very shallow recess at the same...

    Bowl Savers

I think you'll find the motor size is a limiting factor with 1hp not being powerful enough. I've used the Kel McNaughton system for a few years and the tools do take a sizeable width of cut and it's easy for the shafts to bind in the cut (usually take a couple or more cuts side by side to...

Need to obtain a "lump" of pine... bear with me

He would be best going to a local tree surgeon or two and seeing what they have ? Pine generally won't carve well, better with holly or sycamore or similar, closer grained but not too hard.

    Sip 01332 table saw

I sold mine a couple of years for £600 as I recall, don't undervalue it :) A rough rule of thumb that seems quite reasonable is to start at around three quarters of new price if in decent nick and then lower if you can't move it, but around two thirds of new price is pretty reasonable for a...

...need bandsaw belt for Basato 5-2

Have a look in your local Halfords or motor factors for something of similar size, there is usually a degree of adjustment possible on most machines so an exact match may not be necessary.

How stable is green sweet chesthut

It also has loads of tannin in it, so clean off your lathe and tools regularly or you'll get rust patches develop quite quickly, damhikt :)

How stable is green sweet chesthut

Sweet chestnut does love to split on you when you turn your back on it for a minute ! Smells great though when turning, a bit spicy maybe, and mellows to a nice buff/ochre colour.

    Beall m33 x 3.5 spindle tap

I confess I've got one tucked away somewhere, had all sorts of plans of what to do with it, but for pretty much everything I've wanted to do the scroll chucks have been quicker and easier, but does depend on what you're doing I guess.....

I think Toolpost do them Rob, if you can overcome your reluctance to use them ! :)

    Power cable surprise.

With the new house build in our back garden last year the electric guys mentioned that they weren't allowed to use the BT poles these days and had to run power supplies through trenches instead, safety reasons I believe he mentioned.

    Hedge trimmer reviews

The pole trimmers do give your forearms a good workout, mine usually seize up for a couple of days after ! Tried using the supplied simple loop harness and it does take a lot of the weight but I found it very awkward and restricting, although if you had a long stretch of cutting to do in...

    Hedge trimmer reviews

I've had a Stihl Kombi engine unit and attachments for some years now, top quality bits of kit. The engine unit has never missed a beat and powers mainly the hedgecutting attachment which as you say is extremely useful, as well as strimmer and cultivator attachments etc. If I hadn't already got...

We buy your car companies - any experience?

I "tested" a couple of them when getting rid of swmbo's old car a couple of years ago and the valuations offered online were laughable, way below even the worst condition trade price in the valuation guides, and that was before the next stage where they then ratchet the offer down for whatever...
