    The wood processing continues

Looking good and should keep you busy turning for a few more years ! :)

    Bosch 18-2-Li Plus drill driver

I have one and find it a very competent and well made tool, which you would expect from a blue bosch (as distinct from the green diy stuff). It's a good package and price too and will easily do the work you mentioned. Worth noting though that the two 2ah batteries are relatively low capacity...

Ply lining a van and loft insulation

Rockwool RW3 is a mineral wool and resin slab designed for acoustic insulation and will give better results than standard loose mineral wool loft insulation. The latter has lots of air in it to maximise heat insulation, and the RW3 is quite dense to reduce noise travelling through it. Not sure...

Converting Garage to Workshop & Introduction

I've just used this stuff on my workshop floor which was in poor condition, crumbly and dusty, seems to have made a lot of improvement. Take the coverage info with a pinch of salt though, needed far more than suggested, and three applications, but pleased with the result. Other ones are...

    Darn, I need a shed

That's a coincidence, I bought a large one from them too recently, just for storing turning blanks and timber to free up space in the workshop proper. It's half decent quality, 2x1" framing as Mike says, 12mm cladding, won't last a lifetime but plenty good enough for a ten year or so spell I...

    How much light ?

Think the numbers come out at six of the units at 2700 lumens each, which is about what I'd figured intuitively oddly enough ! Just need to decide the best positioning now but pretty sure it will be two on or close to each side and two on the ridge, should give a decent spread of light and...

    How much light ?

The refurb' of my "new" workshop is progressing well and I need to organise some lights for the sparky to fit in a few weeks time. I would do it myself but Part P and all that has put paid to most of that these days and as he is installing a consumer unit and power circuits he might as well do...

    Painting OSB3 boards

Not exactly fine woodworking  but about to start boarding out the inside of my refurbed shed come makeshift workshop with OSB3 boards, which are the ones with a high glue content that makes them half way decent as a vapour barrier to keep the insulation layer behind them dry. I was...

    It's only a fiver, but .......

Thanks Phil, I'm doing a bit of refurb work at the moment so will use that tomorrow I expect :) I always try toolstation first for stuff as they are quite often cheaper than screwfix whose prices seem to have edged up last few years, although they do in fairness tend to have more product lines...

Sabre saw vs Jigsaw Blade Wander

Yes, first thing to try really, new blade, suitable for the material and thickness, and don't force the speed of the cut.....

Sabre saw vs Jigsaw Blade Wander

What jigsaw and what blade are you using, what setting on the jigsaw ? They aren't precision tools of course, but cross cutting 2" thick hardwood reasonably well should be possible with the right set up and speed of cut.

That's good to know, thanks, was thinking about using Wickes !

Converting timber stable into a workshop

Thanks Mike. If using mineral wool it was going to be with a battened out and membraned inch gap between the existing external cladding and the mineral wool. Is that still likely to slump ? I've seen mineral wool "batts" I think they're called which might be better if slumping is likely ? Sorry...

Converting timber stable into a workshop

This is a really interesting thread, not least as I am just about to start something similar to the OP with a repurposed existing large shed. I've been looking at the celotex/kingspan vs rock wool question too. My presumption was in favour of the celotex but, there appears to be around six week...

Anyone made their own chisel roll?

I would have a go, source the decent veg tan leather from one of the suppliers I mentioned earlier, veg tanning process doesn't use the same chemicals, salts, process or whatever as "ordinary" leather so is unlikely to affect the tools in the same way as some normally tanned leathers as I...

Anyone made their own chisel roll?

That's reasonably thick leather Phil, 2.5mm or thereabouts, hand sewn with awl and needle and thread. I have an old hand cranked singer sewing machine with leather needle and it will do a surprising thickness too, but haven't fully tested how much, but certainly great for a few mm combined...

Anyone made their own chisel roll?

Good quality veg tan leather (similar to that used in the video) available from Tandy Leather, Le Prevo, Identity Store, or for cheap, thin, treated/coated stuff then second hand shops or free sofas on gumtree, facebay etc. Haven't yet made a tool roll, but made a few sheaths for carving...

    Tuffsaw blades vs Axminster

It's not at all scientific of course, but a while back I needed a replacement blade at short notice for my small rexon bandsaw, and rather than wait for tuffsaws to deliver I popped down the road to my local axi store, no more than five minutes away, and picked one up there. The axi' blade was...
