    Which rescue service?

I was always with the AA and never had a problem with them and over many years had to call them out a few times. Now I have a motability car I am with rent a clown but overall I think both are pretty much the same with the level of service. Being a motability car though I get preferential...

    At last

Hi Alex. To be honest I feel like abandoning the whole thing, it's been nothing but a giant headache, especially for my son. We did launch the book a few weeks ago on i tunes, it even got to the stage where they asked me to sign a contract and asked for my bank details. but then my son said...

    Tractor key holder

Another fine product from Brendans saw. That will be sure to sell and in your shoes I would make as many as I could, especially going to an event surrounded by tractors.

    Pyrography

I thought I would mention it here before I mention it elsewhere. Some weeks ago I bought a Peter Childs pyrography machine and depspite my best efforts I am just not gifted with any creative skills in adding pyrography to some of the things I make so I am selling it. I bought the upmarket kit...

Makes a Hegner look like a toy

Hi Brian. I have only just re-instated the Dewalt and made a new bench for it. The extraction I use will be the same as I have for the Hegner, just need to have a trip to B & Q for some more pipe work.

Makes a Hegner look like a toy

Hi Brian. I don't have one of those arms. I don't really need anything like that but when I do need to keep the arm up and out of the way i have an off cut on the bench for that very purpose, lot cheaper than buying that arm.s, especially when they want $80 to send it over here.

Makes a Hegner look like a toy

I was just wondering what to move to get it in. I think if I move the Dewalt over a bit it may just slide into the gap. It does take pinless blades but would struggle with anything smaller than a number 5 blade. I nearly ordered three of them so I could have a 9, a 7 and a 5 blade in each which...

    cat_plate

Hi Blaz. That is a very nice piece you have made there. You have really come forward in leaps and bounds and now you have produced this amazing cat. Can I ask where you got the pattern, I would love to make one of those and make it into a key rack. Keep up the good work, you are doing so well.

    At last

At last the book is all done. It has been in the hands of my son for what seems an age now and when he explained the technical challenges to me I was amazed and completely lost in it all. Firstly the software he installed in my computer to write the book was American so when he took it away he...

    Gluing/clamping question

Stooby has given you a good answer to your question. When I have a similar project going I run a bead of glue round the outside edge and then clamp the two pieces together. A tip, if you have lots of internal cuts then start in the middle and work your way out from there to the outer edges. If...

    Any ideas anyone

Many thanks for your comments. I had some friends call earlier today who live nearby, they have just had an extension built and they said they have several lengths of planed 8 x 2. they are 4 metres long so I am going over tomorrow to collect enough to make a 3 legged stand. I know it's over the...

    Any ideas anyone

Beside my hegner scroll saw I also have a Dewalt 788 that must be 25 years old now. I consider this saw to be the best that money can buy. A few years ago I had to have the motor replaced and since then have not really used it because when I did go to use it there was a knocking sound and...

    Cats

Many thanks Guys for your kind comments. I dipped the cats and the bases in teak oil and left overnight. I then used Liberon black bison wax polish buffed up on the pillar drill. To hold the cats in place I screwed up from the underside of the bases into the cats and they are now solid.

    Cats

A fellow member very kindly sent me a picture of some cat like sculptors and my son turned them into patterns using photoshop. The are made in American red oak and the sitting cat measures 10 inches tall. I am very pleased with the way they turned out.

    First fair of 2015

I totally agree with Brendan. I cannot count my time in with the cost of an item, I would never sell anything if I did. I am not bothered that much as i am at home all day anyway as i cannot work in the normal sense of the word and I would rather be scrolling than twiddling my thumbs. I more...

    First fair of 2015

Hi Brendan. That is a stunning display and well thought out. It's always difficult coming up with a new display idea and trying to improve on what we already have. You knew what you wanted to put out for people to see and came up with the best solution. The height is very good so people can see...

    Back in the old days

Many of us sit at the scroll saw for hours at a time and as we are cutting away the mind can sometimes wander onto a variety of subjects. The other day I had a pile of wooden blanks on the bench with patterns on waiting to be cut, several hours work. I was thinking about people who use the...

    Counting the cost

For most of us little or no thought is given to the cost of printing off the patterns we use but for people like me who more or less scroll full time some thought has to be given to the best options available. I expect most scrollers use an ink jet printer and only print off one or two patterns...

    Another quiet one...

You get days when things don't go as well as expected. Last week was a complete waste of time but today I had a good day and loads of orders for different things including a door name plaque for a little boy who want's the superman logo on it. The bad news is that my printer ran out of ink and...

    Airbrushing

Using an air brush will give a superior finish than painting with a paint brush. However. You are painting MDF and here lies the problem. It is difficult to get a really good finish on MDF, especially on the edges. If I were in your shoes then this is the way I would go about it. I would spray...
