    Mac problem

I have an i mac and a couple of months back my son installed the latest operating system, mountain lion. for some weeks I have had a problem when I go on the internet. I click on to a web site but then I cant use the back button to go back. I was looking at router reviews earlier and everytime I...

    Excalibur scroll saw

As many of you know I had an excalibur 21 that I had for about 3 months and then it was returned to the supplier with a shedfull of faults. I was really annoyed after paying so much for it and for so many things to go wrong, which was down to poor materials on the construction and shoddy build...

Triangle clock mk 2 made from yellow pine

Hi Mark. I never thought about the waste, if you do make them in hardwood you will have to make 2 at once to minimose the waste, which will hardly any. I have still not got the router table yet. I am in bit of a dilema at the moment. A good friend of mine recently bought a Makita. Its one of...

Triangle clock mk 2 made from yellow pine

Very nice Mark. I like the design and the way you have proportioned everything. If I were to make one constructive remark it would be that the clock would look even better in one of the hardwoods, maybe Cherry or Yew. Well done, keep up the good work.

    Some advice please....

Hi James. I had the same problems you are experiencing whern I first started makin jisaws from 18mm hardwood. At first I thiught my table was out of square but what it boiled down to was that I was puttin to much pressure pushing the wood. Cut at the speed the saw is comfortable with, you get to...

    safest scroll saw?

Hi Jon. I would personally go for a Hegner, the one with variabl;e speed and a cast iron table. The variable speed can be used to cut a variety of timbers from thin plywood for ornaments and fret work to thick hardwood for plaques and name sings etc. The cast iron table will help absorb any...

    How to get it flat?

Hi Gary. 7 x 3 is not that small in scrolling terms. I am currently making things 2 x 1. You have listed the equipment you have and I think if I were in your shoes I would fix a straight edge to the T/S and clamp it and when it is spot on make several of the pieces you need for the project in...

What wax for my scroll saw

Hi Jay. The best wax for a scroll saw table is Liberon lubricating wax. You shake the tin, pour a little on and work it in the table, leave for a few minutes and then buff it up with a dry cloth. Its what I and many other use. It also protects the table from rust and the work slides real easy...

    help

I have had no experience with this saw but I have not heard anything good about it, apparently the blade changing is time consuming and I am not sure if you have to have seperate clamps for plain end blades. Personally I would save some more hard earned money for a better saw.

    What am I doing wrong.

Hi Eugene. I don't know if you have a Wilkinson's store near you. I get everything from there, it is the cheapest and in my experience the best, all my vlear packing tape, the masking tape and their own brand of stick glue which is better than the Prit stick glue, wWilkinson's also do the tape...

    What am I doing wrong.

Hi Euggene. Over the years I have tried everything and the way I do it now is to get the wood to fit the pattern. I then sand the wood both sides. I ten cover one side in 2 inch masking tape. After that I use stick glue to fix the pattern to the masking tape and if I am using hardwood I then...

    Bouncing Wood

HI Waka. The wood you are cutting is quite thick so you need very good blade tension, a high speed and a slow feed rate. Do not push the wood, let it go at its own pace, As I said, the wood is very thick so it is bound to be slow, especially if it is a hardwood like ash or oak. Cover the pattern...

Calling Hegner owners with sharp eyes

One of the problems with Hegner is that they don't often reply to e-mails. It is always better to telephone and speak to their technical department. I would have thought that in this day and age firms would be clamouring for everyones business, replying to e-mails from customers generates more...

    Dust exteaction

Hi Eugene. The cost of the Hegner vacuum will be through the roof. I cannot find your e-mail address as I would send you photographs of the system I made that is very simple and it works like a dream. I bought a Henry vacuum and have it under my bench connected to my dust extraction system. The...

Calling Hegner owners with sharp eyes

Hi Heather. Glad you enjoyed the video. The saw I was working on was the Dewalt 788, a lovely machine, the blade changing is quicker than the Hegner. These saws are no longer available unless you buy one from America. I forgot to mention. The blade clamps for the Hegner come in 3 sizes as you...

Calling Hegner owners with sharp eyes

Its an early Hegner and I am certain it does not take pinned blades. You have the blade holder to the right of the table for changing blades. You will need the quick release chrome knob that Hegner can supply. There is no front tension lever so it will be a matter of doing the tension at the...

    My "new" scrollsaw

What a beautiful scroll saw. I feel you will greatly enjoy restoring it to its former glory and you will spend many hours on it making things. I see it has variable speed, do have quick release blade clamps. Cant see you getting any vibration from it, even on full speed. Be interesting to see it...

ISP change from Virgin to BT!!! is it worth it?

Bt are a crap company. I fell victim to the sales talk, what they did not tell ne was that I had a 30 gb limit per month, I upgraded to 40 gb a month and with my phone as well I am paying a minimum £40 a month. for every 5gb I go over my limit they charge me £5, according to there reckoning I...

    An update

Hi Eugene. If you can get a shed full of wood for a couple of bowls you are onto a winner. However. If it were me I would lay the timber flat somewhere cool and undercover to allow it to dry out. If the moisture content is on the huh side I would stick it as well, thin sticks laid on each piece...
