    wood silk

Hi Brendan. It was me that started the thread on the wood silk and I was the same as you and found it amazing. It's even better if you apply a second coat after a couple of hours. For me it's a very quick way to achieve an acceptable finish on those rush items. In the main I use wax polish but...

    Christmas candle holder

Very nice, no wonder SWMBO loves it. I wouldn't mind betting she wants another one now to make a pair. Out of curiosity what blade did you use on the corian.

    Wood

Hi Kierri. I can fully understand your frustrations in finding wood. I think what might be a good idea is to sit down with the telephone directory and look for joinery firms. When you have made your list I would visit each one and look in their skips, if you find anything useful just nip inside...

    Finishing for a keyring

If you have already used danish oil then don't use lemon oil on top of that, in fact don't use anything else, when using danish oil you will need several coats to have any effect, the more coats you give it the more shiny it will become. very lightly sand between coats.

Just the job. Be interesting to see the finished fob.

    Finishing for a keyring

There are a number of finishes you can use but I wouldm not use varnish as it cracks over a period of time and then looks unsightly. You could use a spray on lacquer and you can get this in satin or gloss but I would use a sanding sealer on it first. The easiest finish, which would look nice is...

    It's gone

Chris. I sometimes have the same problem with those little cut outs, they drop through the blade hole and often jam and in the past has prevented the blade from going where it should and the piece has been ruined. John. By the side of my saw bench standing on the floor I have a 3 foot length of...

    It not another owl!

Two very fine examples of scroll saw work. I love the detail John, intricate and crisp. I can understand why you need the smallest aperture in the table to avoid breakout and chips. For those new to scroll sawing a lot of saws come with an insert plate where the blade goes, manufacturers will...

    Animal name signs

Many thanks for all your kind comments. Brendan. I made a lovely owl six months ago. I made it sitting on the branch of a tree and made the whole thing in walnut. For a backer that represented a full moon I used maple, loads of people said how nice it was but I never sold it and in the end gave...

    It's gone

I got under the bench with a powerful light and one of those telescopic magnetic tools but to no avail. The floor was more or less spotless. Now I will have to drag other benches away from the wall to look and they are several feet away from the saw, the saw occupies the middle of the workshop.

    Surprise

That Oak is perfect for scrolling and will keep you busy for ages, what a wonderful find. The smae thing happened to me when you found out it was MDF that was being given away, in my case it was pine, totally useless for the things I make and on top of that one side was painted. The thing is you...

    It's gone

To the right of the saw on my scroll saw bench I have a little box with the bits and pieces I need at hand, in the box are things like the hex key for blade changing, various allen keys, a pair of tweezers, a spare bottom clamp and last but not least a very handy little tool. it is like a large...

    Animal name signs

I started making these last week and took them to the craft fair earlier this week, not only did I sell quite a few I got orders for some as well. The ones in the photo are ordered. In between other jobs I am trying to add more animals and will end up with about 8 different ones.

    ...........

She would be perfect, hopefully she would be prepared to live in, be keen on scroll saw work, attend craft fairs and no doubt a few other things I could think of.

    New bee

Hi Woody. A very warm welcome to the scrolling section. Your work is simply beautiful, very well made indeed. The problem with the pinless blades and the appropriate clamps is an on going issue on here and has been for a very long time. It is one of the problems with the cheaper saws. There are...

Nice to hear from you again Eugene, I hope the medical profession are keeping you in tip top condition. I feel sorry for all the guys working away in their cold sheds and summerhouses and then there are one or two working in their garages. It must be awful now we are in the group of winter and...

    ...........

Hi Brian. I agree with you. Iroko is a beautiful wood and it is a joy to cut on the scroll saw. I had a delivery of wood come yesterday and I had several planks of Iroko along with a few other species. If you want to see some really nice grain patterns on wood look for some Yew and Elm. Wood is...

    No Charge

Brian. I never thought of that. I had a sleepless night last night and now I know why, it's my conscience. I will give them a ring in the morning and explain that I have imported goods and have not paid the vat, the cost of opening the parcel, import duty, handling charge. I will apologise for...

    No Charge

For years I had used FD blades and never had to pay any extra when they arrived in the UK. With this orderr of Olsen blades they had staped the packets of blades to a stiff piece of card, which in turn was placed inside the middle of a catalogue so I presume the company are wise to the ways of...

    No Charge

I ordered 4 gross of blades from the wooden teddy bear company in America and they arrived today I had spent a total of $156-60 and $12-60 of that was for postage. The blades had not been intercepted by customes and there was no vat to pay either, as often happens there is an additional charge...
