    Counting the cost

Chris. As far as I was aware I did get induction motors. When the air filter is going you have to get up right close to hear it working. The Numatic and the Henry's are also very quiet and I had assumed they had induction motors. They are all very well made and still performing as well now as...

    Counting the cost

When I first started to attend craft fairs I did not have the equipment that I have today. I made things with the limited equipment I had at the time and it was very time consuming to achieve the quality I was after. When I looked at the cost of buying everything I needed it came as a shock...

    new saw

Hi Jim. A very warm welcome to the forum. I would in no way knock the Hegner clone from Axminster, several members here have the same saw and are happy with them. All I will say is that if you were to cut something on the Axminster saw and then cut something on the Hegner you would see a big...

Only 300 more cuts to go

You must have the patience of a saint. It will look lovely when it's finished, especially as it is in brass. I am thinking that if that was in thin ply you would stand a chance of one or two pieces breaking off, which would be a terrible shame when you got to the 427th cut out. What sort of...

    Blades for Newbies

Thanks for pointing out the typo error Martin. It must have been one of those senior moments. Alex. I have tried Pegus blades and most other brands available and it's really down to personal choice. Olsen are just as good in my opinion and as John pointed out there are the Niqua blades, which...

    Blades for Newbies

Alex. Not many of us use pinned blades mainly because you need quite a large entry hold when doing pierced work, or internal cuts, also you are very limited with the type of pinned blades you can get so most of us use pinless blades. You need very little pressure when tightening the clamps with...

    Fairy Plant Holder

Very nice Pete. Some time ago I made a name sign for my grandaughter using the same fairy. 3 weeks ago my daughter-in-law asked to make 3 name signs using the same fairy as gifts to her friends children. I never want to see another fairy for a long time. Well done Pete, you are getting good at...

    Blades for Newbies

Much has been written on scroll saw blades and for someone new to the art of scroll sawing blades can be very confusing. In a bygone era when I was just a wee lad I believe that blades were bought by the number of teeth on a blade or what is known as TPI, teeth per inch. I remember that there...

    Happy New Year

A very happy New Year to all the members and their loved ones.

The one top tip you would offer a newbie scroller?

Very well said Barry, you have encompassed the joy of scroll sawing to a T and given very sound advice as Chris and Bryan have.

The one top tip you would offer a newbie scroller?

I agree with your idea of getting a scroll saw, a decent secondhand one will be much better that those imported from the far east. You won't suffer the frustrations that come with them like excessive vibration, trying to find blade clamps that take pinless blades and bits breaking off. A lot of...

    Legless

I am overwhelmed with all the good wishes and concerns from you all and I sincerely thank you for taking the time to wish me well. I am taking a positive attitude to the problem. I am still working hard in the workshop building up stock and working on new ideas for the New Years craft fairs. I...

    Legless

I had some bad news recently. There is a chance I may have my feet amptutated. I am diabetic and have a few problems. The hospital have been really good and doing everything they can to avoid this drastic action. I will know one way or the other next week. It is obviously a worrying time and I...

    A few more boxes

Scroll sawing at it's very best. I does not get better than what you have created. The patience of a saint and an excellent eye for detail.

    Small bandsaws

Hi Martin. When I had to give up full time work I decided I would do wood turning as well as carrying on with the scroll saw work. I spent several grand on the kit including a large bandsaw but then when I moved I did not have the room to do the scroll work and the wood turning so the lathe had...

    Flower vases

Martin. I was cutting the acorn when I had a thought, I cut the top off and then rounded over the edges on both parts on the router table and then glued them back together and was pleased with the effect.

    Flower vases

Thanks for the comments. Chris, the tubes are glass test tubes 25mm x 150mm, they have a rim on the top so ideal for this purpose. I shall be getting some 16mm x 150mm ones after Christmas and will be getting some miniture flowers.

    Flower vases

About a year ago I met a lady who was coming to my usual craft fair and soon after she stopped coming along. She sold bud vases, they were a glass tube recessed into a piece of wood that had been cut from a small branch. She had a spiral silver wire round the tube with a silver charm on and they...

    Musical Notes

I wouldn't know what a cleft looks like, not musically inclined. I do have lots of hardwood though but it's all 20mm thick.
