    Which Clay?

The fimo professional would be my first choice. Warm it up before you use it by placing it on a radiator for about 15 minutes as it is easier to condition then. You need to mould it in your hands for a good 10 minutes or another way is to roll it out with a rolling pin, then keep folding over on...

Brain. If only you has mentioned page 3 before now. I have already got my 19 year old blonde assistant on page 3 otherwise the job would have been yours. AES. I feel I must give you an apology as i did not fully reply to your earlier post. It's just been one of those days when there is a huge...

    Lots Of Lovely Wood

That is an amzing amount of wood Pete for £15 and such a variety, not only of species but also of sizes. You will be able to make a wide range of items from that lot and I shall look forard to see what transpires from it all. Well done Mum.

    Book update.

Once again many thanks to everyone for their input. AES. Like many I am completely ignorant of copyright laws etc. But, my son isn't, as he has now had two books published and he is taking care of that side of things for me. Interestingly I did send off a couple of e-mails to a couple of...

    Book update.

The book is coming along very nicely. I have finished writing all the text, some 30,000 words. It is just down to getting some photographs and a few videos made and then it will be complete. I am very grateful to all the members who have offered help and support, much appreciated. Not wishing to...

    DIY Scroll Saw stand video

I found that very interesting. Many Americans have their saws at an angle on the saw stand. I have tried this but I prefer my saw flat. The design of the stand by Steve Good is one of many that are available but all basically the same. It's very strong and solid and perfect for the scroll saw.

Making your own scroll saw on a budget

At least it is not an import from the far east. and has everything the newcomer to scrolling could wish for, Variable speed, tension control at the front and even comes with a foot switch.

    A Wobble Bowl

Very nice piece of work there Pete. It looks perfect to me. I can't see a fault anywhere. Are you covering the wood with clear packaging tape to help prevent burning. I think I would have gone for a number 7 blade to cut all of the pieces, which I feel would have prevented some of the burning...

    Number 15

Thanks Guys for all the comments. Martin. I forgot to slow th saw down on this one. I had made a mental note to do so to see how the brass cut at a slower speed. I will do this next time. Mseries. It is difficult taking a photograph of something that is highly polished, but yes, the black square...

Removing a paper pattern from the cut piece

I use 50mm wide masking tape on the wood and then stick the pattern onto this using stick glue. I have found Wilkinson's own brand to be the best. After I have cut the pattern I just peel it off, simple.

    Number 15

Hi Brian. When I speak to my wood supplier when I need to order some more he goes through what he has got and very often he comes up with something quite exotic and then tries to explain it over the phone, which is not always easy. Speaking to him some months back he said he had some Acasia wood...

    Timber Identification?

Hi Pete. I do believe that number one and number two is Oak. Number three is a bit difficult but I would say again good old English Oak. Number four is a difficult one without seeing more of it, it's the heart wood in the middle that got me on this one but it looks to be the same as number five...

    Number 15

I thought I would show you another house number I have just finished using brass plate again. I managed to cut the numbers using just one blade this time. The finish on the wood is spray on clear lacquer and the brass is untouched, as one member commented last time, I will leave it to the...

    6mm acrylic

If you were going to cut the acrylic on the scroll saw I would have advised a slow speed as a fast speed would weld the sides back together again. I have never cut acrylic with a hand fret saw but I would imagine it will be quite straight forward with something like a number 7 blade.

    Just ordered a Hegner

Hi Don. Congratulations on your saw, you will never regret buying it. It should come with the quick release clamp and a selection of blades, which will be good ones. Ideally you will want a foot switch, it makes things a lot easier. You will also need a lamp. The favourite is the magnifying lamp...

    Scroll saw modification advice.

Hi John. From what you say it sounds as if your saw will take pinless blades with the appropriate allen screws for the clamps. I know B and Q stock a wide range of allen screws, as I have needed them myself from time to time so it may be worth your while taking a clamp with you and getting the...

    Finishing advice

Hi Rob. I have never used the scroll sanders but several of the members do use them and they seem happy with the results. The answer to the oil problem is quite simple. Dip the wood into a dip tank and that way every little cut out gets treated. I know this sounds a bit industrialised but it...
