    Rob's New Workshop

Does that mean that you will have a threshold to negotiate in and out of the doorways? Could be a pain if you want to wheel stuff in and out. Also re ventilation - that was one of the reasons for getting the veluxes - I leave the trickle vents open all the time and its fine. Cheers Tim

Bookcase project WIP (a bit long)Update1

Neil Looks really good - looking forward to seeing the finished article. Ash comes up a treat with Finishing oil as well I find Exactly - its a very useful piece of kit esp for sheet goods (which is why I got it) but I use it a lot now for layout of timber as well and job quoting. The free...

    Ally Pally Reports?

Thanks Philly. What were the boxes going for? Cheers Tim

    Rob's New Workshop

Rob, Trev's comment is spot on re doors. You may lose a bit of wall space, but paired doors that are too narrow on their own are a pain. Can you make it taller inside? Once you have a floor in there you won't be able to stand a sheet of ply on its end except within the middle 4 ft - which is...

    more projects from reclaimed wood

Nice stuff John - although those geese look a little uncomfortable. Cheers Tim (who's off to BC on Friday!)

Films on TV, blaringly loud music, quiet dialogue, any cures

John As the others have said. I have a basic Bose system that has a Movie Equalisation setting which enhances voice and reduces music etc. I'm sure that'll be the same on other systems. Cheers Tim

    Costing a job/project out

Yep, I'd say so. The principles are identical, the actual numbers/ mechanisms are irrelevant. Cheers Tim

    Costing a job/project out

Richard As I said I have no disagreement with your principles or accounting practices. What I was trying to highlight for those trying to gain insight from this thread is that there is no hard and fast rule to how you account for stuff eg: I agree all costs (including future investment and...

    Costing a job/project out

Richard I agree with a large part of your sentiment. Its the same as selling cakes at a bring and buy sale for less than the cost of the ingredients - which seems to happen all too often. I am however in disagreement with some of your suggestions. The 10x formula definitely doesnt work if...

Does a woodrat do dovetails as well as a Leigh jig

I don't know the answer to the first question but it'll be on the Leigh site I'm sure. Yes I do have the attachment, yes it works and I got it thrown in at the Axminster show so I thought it a fair price! Cheers Tim

Does a woodrat do dovetails as well as a Leigh jig

Woody Have you got someone near you that can let you have a go on either? I have a Rat on long term loan and I own the new Leigh D4R jig. I bought the Leigh because I need to do production level of DTs but (and I know that I'll be crucified for this) I just don't find the rat that easy to...

    Costing a job/project out

So why are you charging your time at less than minimum wage then!  Cheers Tim

    Costing a job/project out

Its a difficult one and quite personal. Are you keeping a timesheet on projects? If not then you'll not learn how long it takes to make a piece and won't know how much to charge out. Think about how much you would have to pay someone to make a piece (and then step into their shoes). One of...

    SU question - trellis

Thanks Dave. I did do that with one design but since there are 4 large doors, two of which are irregular shapes, any changes are a bore. I'll PM you and send you my model (as long as you promise not to laugh). Cheers Tim

    How to make hinges?

Thats exactly how jewellery hinges are made - so that is probably the best way. Cheers Tim

    Dear Marge

Not buy her a better iron. 12 shirts in one evening is not nearly fast enough. Do Festool not make one? Ask her why it took so long? I expect that will get her saying something. All the best in traction. New Man of Herefordshire

    SU question - trellis

I am designing some cabinets at the mo which will have doors panelled with some form of trellis ie radiator cabinet stuff. The client keeps changing their minds but also wants to see this reflected in the drawings. I have got away with this up til now by painting in copied images. However...
