Has anyone designed a mobile timber rack?

I've seen a couple of A frame type designs in mags like FWW. I would have thought though that a frame to hold 500lbs or so will probably end up being a bit of a beast and need some pretty heavy duty castors or wheels to have any chance of moving it safely. How far do you want to move it...

    Table extensions for EB P/T

Colin Its not so much about the weight support but about the flatness of an extended top to enable bowing to be planed out. A roller is going to do that. Cheers Tim

    Melamine Faced Chipboard

Thanks guys I hadn't thought about Confirmats - I used to use them a lot on MDF stuff but got fed up with the odd blowout so stopped using them but think I'll try the biscuit/ pocket screw or carcase screw options first. Jason - it is 18mm not contibix! Cheers Tim

    Melamine Faced Chipboard

Sorry about this everyone. I have never made anything with MFC but I need to tie in a bunch of cabinets to a room full of the damn things. Whats the best method of carcase construction for this stuff, given that gluing surface is minimal. I normally use pocket screws, biscuits and glue for...

Dowelling - where can I get some

Zackly! I thought he was going to show us some super fast method that I just hadn't managed. Instead it took forever! It was a bit embarrassing given that he'd taken the time to show us Cheers T

Dowelling - where can I get some

You are doing well then Neil. I told Tom LN at the Axminster show that I couldn't get the dowel to come out straight. He assured me that it would and sure enough he showed Chris and I that you can produce a straight piece of walnut dowel about 6 inches long in roughly 20 minutes! :shock...

    Table extensions for EB P/T

The problem is not the thicknesser at all but the planer tables are too short for anything longer than about 1200mm - I need a solution to planing longer boards esp when of heavier cross section. Do I have some already?  Cheers Tim

    drawer design, particularly drawer bottoms

Chris, I think Paul means the type of drawer where the base runs in a kerf cut into the carcase side with the drawer body planted on top. Like the cabinet under your workbench.....  Cheers Tim

    Table extensions for EB P/T

Does anyone know if you can buy table extensions for the infeed and outfeed planer tables (not thicknesser ones like Tony made) for the EB260 planer. I can't find any but there are enough clone makes out there that I wonder if anyone knows of a source. I'll ask Metabo/ EB tomorrow but their...

What do you do about sharp edges and corners?

John Same as you - roundover or 45deg chamfer just to take the edge off. I sometimes use a bead bit for variation, although this is only good for two edges of a door because the corner looks odd. Cheers Tim

    tablesaw quandry

As Adam says it is flexible. The downside with the Sheppach (same in the CI version as well IIRC) is that the mitre slots are non standard. Why is beyond me but its v. annoying. Other than that its a great buy. Cheers Tim

    Metabo Jigsaw

I bought the Metabo last year but replaced it with the Bosch the next day. I found that the blade deviated significantly from the vertical with thicker timber on the Metabo and doesn't on the Bosch. That said at the time the prices were like for like so it was much easier to make the decision...

Safe dados????? or why you need push sticks

Tony I hope you recover quickly. Sounds and looks nasty - should they be that green   Its so easy to not take all the right precautions esp when its a familiar routine - I do it all the time   but then we forget that its the wood that varies. Thanks for posting...

    I'm back too

Well, just the best holiday ever. Two weeks in Whistler, British Columbia. Fantastic snow, hardly anyone there, the guys we were with got engaged on the second day (knackered any kind of food and drink budget). I finally mastered skiing powder through trees - very steep learning curve! And...

    Bye

As I pack, I am struggling to find room anywhere for stuff I need with me  Luckily, since my wife is half Canadian we have a fair amount of family over there (and my mum lives in the US) so the odd parcel does get sent  Cheers Tim (who has had the inspired idea of vac...

    Bye

Well for now anyway. Off for our first holiday in three years tomorrow evening (the joy of starting a business!). Going to Whistler in Canada for two weeks - Cannot wait. :P Just found out that we will be there when they handover the Winter Olympics from Turin to Vancouver/ Whistler...

    cutlistplus download techy question?

I also thought (what I was told) that the more items that you have on the desktop, the lower the PC performance because of the way those files are looked for. Therefore keep a few there but better to use shortcuts instead. Could be tosh though. Cheers Tim

    Rob's New Workshop

Only if thats your only source of ventilation and you are subscribing to building reg requirements (which doesn't apply in the same way for temporary structures). If you are putting in bought dg units then the frames will now have trickle vents as standard anyway. Cheers Tim
