    Monty - he's back!!!

Sorry I haven't been around for a bit, my 7 year old lab, Monty is very sick. He collapsed into his food bowl on the bank holiday weekend and after much messing about with local vets we managed to get him admitted as an emergency to Bristol Vet school. They have diagnosed him with a condition...

    Crows Mobbing Hawk

So its not just ours that does that then. We reckon our blackbird is actually related to Penguin in the Wallace and Gromit film. Cheers Tim

    Crows Mobbing Hawk

We've got 6 pairs of nesting buzzards round us and they get mobbed all the time by damn crows who are just after stealing thier food. What I have seen a couple of times is the blackbird which 'owns' our garden see them off when the eggs are hatching. Cheers Tim

green oak working tips wanted please

Roger If you are going to use green oak then i would recommend pegged M&Ts. How green is it? Unless well stacked it will move A LOT if its very green. BTW 50mm isn't very thick for structural posts - I think you need to consider some 4x4s or bigger as well. Also when you say a ton, do you...

    menieres disease

Prawnking Sorry to hear your news. I can only echo the advice posted - share this with your wife, she is bound to be wondering what's bothering you (unless you are a pro poker player your anxiousness will be visible) and then the two of you can begin to help each other make the best of the...

    Festool guide rail moan

It seems to me that they haven't quite got the sizings right. The 1400 is just big enough for a full width of ply until you add in the effect of the angl guide or guide rail deflector. I think a 1500 or 1600 would be better. Given that they realise that an overhang of 260mm total is needed...

    Festool guide rail moan

Andy Do you use two connectors? I find that that sorts out the prob for me. I don't have the 2.7m rail because of transport and storage. Cheers Tim

    Push Locks

What about the kind of handle that they use on squash court doors? Would that work? Cheers Tim

    decking question

To curve the board you need to cut a kerf in the back at spacings dependent on the curve. The more kerfs the smoother the curve. Depending on how much of a feature it is, you could always laminate several thin pieces to give a smoother result. For the framing, the best option is to cantilever...

    Been Looking at Google Earth...

The hamlet next to the village I grew up in was called Shitterton. Those with ideas above their station used to pronounce it without the 'h'. Much glee for a ten year old then forced to ask: Oh do you mean .... (with the h added in in bold!) Cheers Tim Who now lives very close to Bagwyllydirt.

    Trend T11 Router Springs

I'd call Trend technical - very helpful to me in the past. The rep has told you something that contradicts what trend tech told me. Also it does sound as if it might be faulty - mine certainly doesn't do that. Cheers Tim

    festool ANGLE GUIDE

Maybe i'll try the bolt trick. FWIW - I really think that this should have indents at the main angles and esp at 90. Its also not great for when you aren't ripping the widest of panels ie nothing for it to bear against. Cheers Tim

    Trend T11 Router Springs

Mark I asked this question of Trend some time ago. You are not supposed to be able to remove them since the nuts are glued in otherwise the raiser element won't work properly. Although I haven't done it, you could do it and then reglue the nut. I wouldn't remove one though in case it made...

    The SU Challenge - WIP

All looks very impressive guys - but I think time to get out more   BTW how do you do the exploded view - is it just a case of moving the component parts manually or is there a snazzy trick? Cheers Tim

Any idea what wood this is ?

Yep. Hardness has nothing to do with defining whether its a hard or softwood eg balsa is a hardwood and yew is a softwood. The definition of a softwood is that it is is evergreen and that a hardwood is deciduous or to be more specific a softwood tree is a gymnosperm and a hardwood tree is...
