    Pope's Visit - cost

I'll probably get into trouble because of this posting but if anybody feels as strongly as I do about who pays for this then please go to - http://www.secularism.org.uk/petition-the-pm.html

    Cannon GasMiser.

Does anyone know where I might buy replacement radiant panels for a Cannon GasMiser fire? It's model K16 Mk 3. Cannon seem to have been taken over by Flavel but I can get no reponse from the latter. I'm in Herefordshire. Fred.

    Startrite bandsaw roller guides

I like the idea of changing to roller guides but I'm not into brazing or mechanical engineering. Your modifications frighten me off. Happy to spend £37 on the Axminster upgrade but not if it involves the work you describe. Fred - whose original blocks are still okay but are an absolute nightmare...

    Stevenson Screen.

I'm looking for a design to build a Stevenson Screen (not to fool bees but for weather things). Any suggestions anyone?

    Sharpenset Whetstone

Does anyone know of a recent review of a horizontal whetstone grinder by Whetstone Engineering Co? I still have a review of a similar machine by Buckingham Tool Co. of Farnham in Antony Talbot's "Working Wood" of Spring 1980! I've not seen anything since. Any opinions anybody? Fred.

    Alan Peters

I have treasured his book for very many years. The newspaper obituary will now be pasted into it. Alan had a Woodworker article very many years ago. It was a garden seat - you may remember. I only got as far as making the ends before I realised that this item of design was not the 'best of...

    Contradictory bandsaw advice

Have a look at the short paragraph on this topic in Laguna's "American Woodworker's Table & Bandsaw Tips & Techniques" free download. Beware though it's a large file.

    Fine Woodworking Online offer

Are there any opinions amongst this list regarding the current free 14 day trial of Fine Woodworking Online. It seems very attractive and is clearly designed to gain future subscription. However, I'm always reluctant to quote a credit card number for a so-called free trial although FW claim it...

    Lyndhurst Woodworking

The top man at Lyndhurst was registered on this forum a few years ago but sorry I cannot remember his name. I had the greatest respect for him and his business and truly hope things have not gone badly. Fred.

    curved drawer front

Thanks Marcus, I think pride and reputation are causing my concern. I just don't want the client to come back after a while complaining that the fronts are lifting. I've already explained that unless the drawer stops are placed accurately then the applied fronts will take a knock every time the...

    curved drawer front

I’m applying a three sixteenth inch thick ash ‘veneer’ onto a curved drawer front. Do you think I should steam or water treat this piece and get it into the approx. curvature before final gluing? The veneer is fairly springy at present and I have nagging doubts that the glue might not hold it...

I'm trying to find a supplier of very small ball feet, in wood, suitable for jewelry boxes and similar items. Anybody know a source?

    Fine Woodworking Online Subscription

Jed, You will find the world's best art work in Fine Woodworking and related publications etc. It's worth the subscription just for the pictures. I keep my copy of 'Tools and Shops' just for Christmas-day reading. Remember however, American designs are different to UK and so is the text at...

    Dakoto Water Stone Horizontal Grinder

I know I've asked this question in the past but just in case current opinons have changed - what do people think of the Dakota Water Stone Grinder? I'm surprised that Axminster don't appear to favour these horizontal grinders and this causes me some concern. Does anyone have strong views based...

    Coronet Saw Table

Here’s a long and sorry tale of how I spent an entire afternoon. I still regularly use a Coronet Major saw table for most square cross cutting. Well, it’s not been very square recently and I set out to ‘fine tune’ as they say these days. No matter how I adjusted the mitre gauge I still failed to...

    double locking on router collet.

Thanks to everybody above. The problem has been solved - simply cleaning and applying a trace of oil worked wonders. Nevertheless, with all the information above I'll be better prepared should the problem ever arise again. Smoothing the cutter shaft also greatly helped. Thanks everybody. Fred

    double locking on router collet.

Is there an engineer/mechanic on this forum? I’m in trouble with my Dexter Tools Router, the fairly big one, 1/2inch, 1,900W etc . The trouble lies in removing the cutter after use. It has this double lock thread business - which I don’t understand other than I realise it’s a safety device...

    Bandsaw blade storage

How should a band saw blade be stored? I have in mind the size for a Startrite 352 (112 inches I think). Should it be kept at the same radius as the band saw’s wheels (ie folded)? Or, should it just be allowed to hang out loosely? And, what about rusting? Would you give it a light oiling to...
