Richard Kell No.2 honing guide help needed

So you claim...actually it works rather well and is beautifully made, but it doesn't work on stones as the wheelbase is too wide, so w/d papers and 3M films are what it's best suited to - Rob

    "You're going to do what?"

..not only pics, but I saw a video clip this morning of it landing. Bit grainy, but fantastic none the less - Rob

    Rolls Royce testing

That's one I hadn't heard...excellent. During the 70's I worked briefly with a bloke who flew Mosquito's in the war. It's a long time ago now, but I recollect that he took part in the raid on the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen and remember him saying on another occasion that he got the aircraft to...

What's happening to out British language

Language always evolves and there's nowt we can do about it, but what I really, really detest   is 'up-speaking' (Oz fashion) at the end of a sentence. If anyone does it to me I just shake me bonce and tell 'em I don't understand what they're saying and could they repeat it...

    Will tools and materials deteriorate?

I'm not sure about power tools, but for hand tools like planes and chisels, I'd strip them to their component parts and give each bit a coat of Vaseline and then re-assemble - Rob

Richard Kell No.2 honing guide help needed

Don't forget also that the Kell No2 likes to be used on the 'pull' stroke...in fact it's almost impossible to push it - Rob

I would like a new workshop

...in which case nobody on our estate would be insured as there aren't any garages. Everybody parks their car either on a driveway or on the street - Rob

    Another awful pun!

    Appalling  - Rob

    What wastage should be allowed?

As ever Richard, you make some excellent points, but I agree with Steve...I've never yet in the UK come across a decent bit of AWO, maybe the 'murricans send us all the gash stuff? As I said, you can also get hold of some appalling kd'd European Oak, which is fit for nothing better than...

    Fielded panel

One of these, done by hand with a parallel tongue: ...is quite tricky. This one was done by hand and the finish is left from the plane...no sanding - Rob

    Nudist colony

Is it?...I'm not sure. Certainly in the UK we are the fattest/most obese in Europe (please correct me if I'm wrong). It seems that on the Continent there are a lot less obese folk and I saw none in Japan recently. Have a good hols in the US of A btw Bob - Rob

    sharpening for beginners

I've just re-done mine and used a woodie to take off the high spots, going across the grain and then a LV jointer to true it and checked with the longest LV straight edge (one of the really thick ones)...didn't take very long and has made a big difference to the bench - Rob

    Nudist colony

...and you don't have to go very far in the UK to see them either. You can see all the lardies if you just have a stroll round your local town centre - Rob

I would like a new workshop

If you've ever seen RI's 'shop (and I haven't :( ) it's as big as an aircraft hanger and as clean as an operating theatre. I have it on good authority that you have to change your 'outside' shoes for 'shop shoes' at the entrance. Agree also about the dust issue, which ever way we tackle it, it...

I would like a new workshop

Absolutely. My 'shop is 20x12' in old money and now fairly choca-block with gear and toys, but it's reasonably well organised and generally pretty tidy. I've deliberately tried to have a section of free space (say 6x9'ish) for the assembly of larger projects if need be. I'd quite like to get...
