    Cleaning Aluminium planer tables

I wonder if it'll remove epoxy as well?...meths is the only thing that seems to get the stuff off your fingers - Rob

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

So they are, but 5 minutes with a file will get them to fit nicely. It's also worth getting hold of a decent blade, I got a couple from Wealden which are excellent. I didn't like the crown guard on mine so I've replaced it with: a completley enclosed one, with a 3mm carbon fibre riving...

    Block Plane Indulgence ?

Have to agree...why pay uberbucks for the LN when the QS will do the same job for a fraction of the price...and it's got three blades - Rob

    A2 Plane Iron Users

It is a simple process, agreed, but different people use different techniques to get the end result and that's where a lot of the confusion arises, but the important thing is that end users obtain the edge they're looking for, by whatever means - Rob

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

This is the kit I used. It's a bit spendy but useful for other jig making applications as well. Be advised though, that the threads are Whitworth and not Metric, so the parts aren't interchangeable with other Metric knobs etc - Rob

On the other hand, this: ..is how the locals in Takayama, Japan do the sharpening stuff. The chisels were well used and were lethally sharp. A bucket and the floor is the way forward! - Rob

    Looking to Start Veneering

I have had a go at the traditional method using the hot glue, but it's messy and you need to be really quick with the application and getting the stuff laid. The iron will prolong the process and give you a little more time to sort out any problems by applying local heat. Using a waterproof...

Effects of cap iron on planing...

For those unfamiliar with the notorious WfH, it's almost impossible to plane with anything, let alone any fancy set up with conventional irons...Paul, myself and others have tried! The only person who tamed it was the LN guy at the last West Dean event who went for a low angle LN jack (out of...

    Looking to Start Veneering

This is the traditional hot animal glue veneering which is a lot more difficult than it appears in the clip. Don't use the original yellow Titebond 'cos it's not waterproof as if you need to clean off tape (which you won't) with a nylon scourer and hot water...the veneer will bubble and lift...

My first boxes up for critique......

Purpleheart looks OK at the moment but will eventually fade to a dull brown colour :( ...not something that I'd use in a project, though a forum member did give me a lump to play around with a couple of years ago - Rob

    I did it (Charnwood W650)

Glad you've got hold of the W650...you'll find it's a good piece of kit. I suggest you get hold of the relevant copy of F&C for a full in depth review and my alterations and mods to it - Rob

Cutting 4'' thick Ash (Workbench top)

I've done this before with a hand held circular saw (trying to cut through a very thick lump of elm) and it's fraught with difficulty. Even cutting through from both sides you may not get the cuts to line up, plus there will be a significant build up of dust in the groove which won't have a...
