    UK Workshop Friendliness

I have to agree with Rog and all the other comments...as others have said, UKW has it's 'keyboard warriors' but generally it's a great place to hang out. I have two regrets, the first being Roy's (Digit) input on the General Forum. It doesn't seem quite the same anymore as there was usually...

    Can you forge a forge?

Matt, excellent analysis, many thanks - Rob

    Can you forge a forge?

Absolutely...the nature of a Japanese laminated blade (plane or chisel) means that it's impossible to make one without forging the thing and yes, they will (in my experience at least) take and hold a better edge than their Western counterparts. Whether or not the Japanese chisel suits the...

Drill 19mm Work Bench Dog-Holes Experiences - Advice Please

Agreed. If you're going to use one of these bits with a thread in a power tool, the best thing to do is to grind the thread away to leave a small point - Rob

Can you get a wood grub screw?

I recollect that I used a standard M6 threaded bolt (or something similar) in wood a couple of years ago for a little project...it does help if the timber is very dense and heavy so a decent thread can be cut. I was using African Blackwood at the time with no problems...the stuff is so hard it...

    Cherry Fly Box

Apologiies for that Steve, I thought the top t'were veneered. Just for future ref in case you do another one like it, a diagonal top is quite hard to get 'right' as you want to try to ensure (note the 'try'...and that's the difficult bit) to get all the grain patterns to line up and it's not...

Hi All - Yes still here!!

I totally agree with Paul, but....when you're a self-employed maker with professional commitments and a family, it's a very difficult balancing act to get right. None the less Rog, I think it's one you do need to get right - Rob

    Cherry Fly Box

I suggest you seriously get a grip! The OP ASKED for comments and himself mentioned that he didn't like the lozenge. The comment about the top veneers is absolutely valid...they don't line up and it's something that the maker can take into consideration the next time something like this is...

    Cherry Fly Box

Nice looking job, but I agree about the lozenge...doesn't work for me. if I could be a tad critical about the veneer on the top...it needs to be chosen and matched with greater care...look at the skewed pattern that's been created. Having said that, you've made a decent job of joining them...

Hitch Hikers Guide to The Galaxy - Live

My daughter hates Gollum with a passion, the stuff of nightmares! I remember at the time I got hold of a poster of the G-man (no...not Mr.Grimsdale...or maybe it was?) and blu-tacked it to the ceiling above her bed. The only problem was that she had a new bunk bed and she was on the top, so...

What happened with the Stanley Premium planes?

I appear to have missed something here, but I have thought her input to the forum(s) of late has bin a little 'lacking' (not quite the correct terminology, but you know what I mean...I hope) If this is the case, I agree with Rod...completely uncalled for. Would anyone care to explain (probably...
