    Convex Double Bevel Sharpening

Nice to see it's panto season again! - Rob

Fair comment, but I think generally the situation in the UK has a vast way to go to catch up on the cycling ethos on the Continent, although we do seem to be prepared to wear hi-viz gear and helmets far more than riders abroad (excluding 'roadies') Salisbury is gradually getting better, but the...

    Greenheart Timber info?

The original date on this thread was 2004. If my maths is correct, that must make it one of the oldest resurrected threads on record - Rob

    Convex Double Bevel Sharpening

I use all three, all at the same time...convex bevel on the primary, concave on the honed and flat on the micro nano-bevel, or is concave bevel on the primary, convex bevel on the honed and flat on the back, or was it the micro-nano?..but it might have been flat on the primary and concave, or...

    Recent student work

Some nice pieces in there Richard, but nothing that really 'grabs' me...perhaps the 'Elevation Cabinet' is the one that I like the look of most, but the stand looks strange to my eyes. Still, takes all sorts etc...be interesting to see what others think - Rob

Amen to that John, I sincerely hope that one of the spin-offs of Le Wiggo's TdF win is that it will raise the profile of cycling in all it's forms in the UK...at the moment, cycling in cities is a pretty lamentable affair - Rob

    Luvvin the Flog at Lytham

I think the the thing with 'le Tour' John, is the sheer gruelling nature of the thing. Two things come to mind as as example, one was a snippet in the press yesterday about some of the ascents that the riders go through...one commentator compared just one of the ascents to going up Ben Nevis...

    How do I stop

That's about par. Unless you want to almost continually paint the stuff (Forth bridge scenario) it will turn silver grey...I'd just let it go grey. The teak itself won't be affected or rot either - Rob

    stupid purchases.

...and that I think is often the case. The salient point is that by making his own fronts and drawers, he can make them 'bespoke' so that they wouldn't be anything like 'normal' factory made units - Rob

    stupid purchases.

I use mine in the normal way with a Japanese saw, works fine...no need to use the back edge - Rob

    The Mask Cabinet...WIP

it is Paul, as the base won't straddle the rails. Just a couple of dabs of d/s tape is enough to hold it in place. Note also that the bench has been trued and cleaned up (Lamello pic)...first time in 10 years ... should have been done a lot sooner - Rob

    The Mask Cabinet...WIP

A little more work has been done on this project. Firstly, rear panel has been assembled: ...with the panel having been polished and sitting around a mm below the surface of the frame which has yet to be finished. The two side frames have been Domino'd together and one is shown being routed...

    Tables in Elm

Everyone gets to a point CT, where we say 'enough is enough...it's dun and dusted and any goofs I'll have to live with.' I've done lots of stuff where the job has been finished and I look at and wish...'if only I'd done that' but by then it's too late and I have to live with what's been done...

    osmo polyx

Agreed...two very thin, brush applied coats is fine. De-nib 'twixt coats with some worn 320g. I use the matt version which I then polish with teak wax and a grey webrax to leave a slightly more satin finish - Rob

    Cabinet scrapers

Yep, that's one of the tricks. I do it by using a fine 150mm file on the edge, then I polish it by holding it against a square block on my 3M films and finally swipe each face a couple of times on the films...a light touch is then needed with the burnisher to turn over the hook - Rob
