new toy - sealey drill press

Was it the same as newtool model? I had a red one well i still do but don't use it any more as the quill has to much play in it. I bought a medding and mounted it on the work bench and used the motor from the newtool to change it from three phase to single phase. I'd only stick to the known...

    Select a DNA for tools

http://www.selectadna.co.uk/ You buy the kit and spray it on yourself. There is no annual fee. To do 50 items it is £50 to buy a sign to show you are using the system it is £9.50. They say it reduces thefts by 85%. Makes you think that if it is so good why isn't it offered free? If...

    Select a DNA for tools

Well finally our area is implementing the DNA spray to uniquely identify your property. I want to get this and put it on my tools as i've already suffered from several thefts. I have some concerns though. It says that the thief will end up with this stuff on them which is almost impossible...

Jet, Performax and Axminster Drum Sanders ???????

I have copied a set of drawings and a write up from FWW. If you are interested i can pop it in the post to you. It is one of the best i have seen as it has a bigger drum so it doesn't heat up as much and it doesn't clog up as fast.

Jet, Performax and Axminster Drum Sanders ???????

I would build one myself, it is on my list of things to build this year. £1200 is a lot of money!!! Have fun spending it, you have a very thoughtful wife. I'd get something for her as well, just to show her how much you love her.

Daft Building Reg noise in workshop proposals

I do care about the noise i make! I know my neighbour doesn't hear me and don't work out of business hours at all. I don't like hearing other projects going on down the road or the screaming kids next door. I don't mind kids making noise its just when they scream for no reason and their...

uk oak - nice timber, good prices, shame about the service

Wish i could get timber that cheap! Crappy day but savings are savings. Take them were i can. I deal with a two man band, but some times it feels like he is a bit of a bandit. He has no competition though. I think i'd go for the deal you got even knowing what buggers they are. I'd just...

    Some more shop made saws

LoL Karl, I hope they get lots of orders. We want them to succeed so we can buy more. I've wanted some hand saws for a long time but the cost of the saws and their nondescript character turned me off. These things are worth having and keeping a life time in my opinion, and yes i feel very...

    Some more shop made saws

Hopefully i'll be getting one made. Crossing my fingers Edit: I've just received a message, we are going get one made!!! very excited these saws are the first saws I've seen that i could justify spending this kind of money on. Thanks Klaus and Pedder! Their names have a nice ring too!

    Air filters

I don't see it as paranoia at all, it just seems to me that if it is already floating around before it gets to the filter how much of it are you going to breath in before it gets there? It's like playing roulette. But i guess if you've already covered the removal up to .5 microns then your...

    expanding table

I don't care either! tired of hearing do a search etc... no one forces anyone to read and not all of us have been here as long as some. I haven't seen this before and think it is brilliant!! I doubt it would be on my list of things to do though. People, you can ignore threads you have read...

    Air filters

So from what i can gather from your reply then this is for filtering the air and not the exhaust of your dust collection system? It would be hard to get the paper to stick if it was used as an exhaust filter. In that case where are you going to put it? One at each machine? If not i don't...

    Air filters

I've thought the same thing ever since reading Bill something or others site on dust removal and cyclones. I think a good well designed cyclone and a good filter is the only real defense against the unseen nastiest. But as others have said, woodworking has hazards and i don't think you can...

    Some more shop made saws

Do you sell these? I need a saw for cutting frets on guitars. Rather smallish saw with a kerf of .57 mm. I need it to work with this jig http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts.asp?CategoryName=Fretting&NameProdHeader=Manual+Slotting+System There is a video on that link which will show...

    Save the dying arts....

I think the difference is modernization. You can bet when times were good they did not put money into modernization as this is Britain, we do things a certain way... Now there are companies that make the things with a way higher standard, higher value, and higher profit margins in other...

My TS-200 fettling and saw/RT bench build thread...

When you are cutting very think pieces on the table saw you will be thankful for the shallow sided fence. You could make a push stick that runs along it as well to push the wood clear of the blade. Try that with the fence upright and see how far you get

    Save the dying arts....

I don't think they even do enough for small business period. I have struggled for three years and will struggle for a couple more before i will even be in a position to hire an apprentice. But then i'm the kind that doesn't want to go into debt to just be able to provide full services. I only...

    Combi Drill

Thanks i thought they'd be cheap cheap cheap, but i thought if the batteries are just the same but a different colour it wouldn't be a great loss and one could use the drill appropriately, like predrilling or throwing a countersink bit on it and leave it on, however i can get the 12v naked for...

    Combi Drill

I got mine the other day when it was pointed out by another poster. I noticed today they had one called site that looked quite like the makita same specs and all for just under £50 i'd be curious what that is like. I go through a lot of drills so it wouldn't be a bad addition if it charges on...

    Wadkin C7 Bandsaw

mine have the cork. I didn't put it on myself but bought it that way and i've had it for about three years with no problems at all. Mine isn't a Wadkin though but it is a big old bugger that's for sure. I like turning it on as it sounds like a plane taking off and cuts through anything i...
