    Perform Biscuit Router set ?

Oops - my response was based on my personal experience with the Trend cutter set - which has a single cutter. Having just looked at the Perform cutters, it seems that the twin cutters are there as a convenience for cutting two slots at once for extra strength. My method is based on...

    Perform Biscuit Router set ?

Scrub that last bit - if you mount the bit in the router table, you could use the machined slot to visually set the required height of the bit for the tongue. It's then just a case of running the wood through once on each side. Martin

    Perform Biscuit Router set ?

I don't see why not - if you get the bit approx centered with respect to the piece that is to have the slot, and then ran the bit through the wood twice (once from each side) this would give you a perfectly centered slot. It's then just a case of machining the tongue to fit (which would...

    Mybiggest project to date

Blimey - that's still pretty steep for a few wire baskets. I guess if you were clever you could throw something together yourself from cheaper components if you had a certain engineering streak....(but not me  )

    discovery H+L...

I have to agree that H&L is definitely going down hill from a woodies perspective. What I can't understand is why they persist in showing 4-5hrs of fishing on a Sat & Sun morning. Do the fish only come out in the afternoon? From what I remember of my fishing days (when I was a lad, so going...

    Size of Scheppach TS2500 (Adam?)

Thanks for all of your collective help. My reasons for NOT buying this TS are dropping like dominoes :D ....think it's only a matter of time (but the workshop will definitely need a tidy up first). I just hope there isn't a waiting list for these things - I've got some nice white oak on...

    Finishing end grain

Hi Rookie, [Disclaimer: not an expert in finishing by any means, so please treat the following accordingly  ] I've heard of 2 tips for the end-grain problem: 1. Sand the end grain with a higher grit (smoother) paper than the rest of the peice. The numbers I saw suggested were 600grit...

    Size of Scheppach TS2500 (Adam?)

Roy, That's just what I needed - thanks very much for your help. So I guess worse case is about 800 wide with the s/c but no table attached, and 1100-1200 with (but without the mitre fence on). It's likely to be width that's the limiting factor when the table's stored, but I think it's all...

    Size of Scheppach TS2500 (Adam?)

Thanks Chris. Those are exactly the kind of features that attract me to this TS - seems like it's designed with the smaller workshop in mind. I'm thinking of getting the carriage + fold down extension table (after, it's huge hole in the wallet anyway, so a little more won't make much different...

    Free

Roy - thanks for the info. I had a feeling you didn't need to follow them, but as you say you'd be stupid not to. My garage/workshop is already wired (done by the previous owners of the house) - but I'm not sure yet what they did. I really just want to extend the numer of sockets + be sure...

    Size of Scheppach TS2500 (Adam?)

Adam, Thanks for the info - and sorry to hear about your back - must be frustrating not to be able to go into the workshop (not to mention painful as well!). I hope you didn't come a cropper when lugging your TS out of the workshop to cut those doors the other day ... :( If the sliding...

    Size of Scheppach TS2500 (Adam?)

I'm getting awfully close to taking the plunge with this TS, but wanted to be sure that it would fit within the space allocated in my workshop. I know the core table dimensions (800x680), and that will fit without problem, but wondered what space it needs when the sliding carriage is attached...

    Free

My Brother used to be a sparkie and I was discussing this very same issue the other day with him - am planning a reorganisation of the workshop to fit in more power tools :P and have decided to sort out the electrics once and for all as well... He said much the same as you Roy - that you are...

    Table saw advice

Adam: Good tip with the out-house - actually I already tried this idea but it was rejected because my wife doesn't want it taking up space on the patio. We already have a shed in the back garden which stores the lawnmower etc. - the workshop/garage has other "household" stuff in it like an old...

    Table saw advice

Adam, You're right there - about a year ago I decided to try my hand at turning and purchased a new lathe, which at the time seemed like an impossible feat given the free space that I had in the workshop. However, after a tidy-up and abit of re-arranging things I managed to fit it in without...

    Table saw advice

Thanks for the update archpa - I'm still in the contemplation stage, and Rutlands (damn them) only went and sent me an email tonight advertising the new cast iron TS2500. Damn! I know I shouldn't because it will be too big for my shop, but something Adam said struck a chord with me -...

    A New Tool

Well done Dave - that makes 5 of us. :D Have to agree that the bandsaw is one of those most underated of tools. Every time I use mine (which is not often enough!) I end up thinking "I should really use this thing more often - it is so versatile". Cheers, Martin.

 Ooh! The underhand things us woodies will do to improve our workshops  Thanks Waka - that buying tip has been duly noted for future use.... Martin

    Kick-back on a Mitre Saw?

Thanks for the info Waka - coincidentally I've got the Makita as well (the LS1013) and I still have the original blade in. Haven't noticed any degration in its cutting performance, although I suppose it's likely to be one of those things that degrades gradually so you wouldn't notice easily...

    Kick-back on a Mitre Saw?

I was using my sliding mitre saw the other day and had a case of kick-back - not with the piece I was cutting but with the blade/motor assembly, which came back towards me. Kind of suprised me at the time (of all the years I've been using the saw this has never happened). Have any of...
