    Loves and Hates?

A good thread Tony :D Likes: - Finishing a project (my reputation for this being somewhat shoddy!) - When it works out just as you intended Dislikes: - Sanding - Taking a special trip to B&Q/Homebase to get that thingymabob that you need, only to find a day later that you had one all along...

    Replacement blades for Scheppach TS2500

Thanks Alan. Sounds more like a "buy scheppach" device than a safety device  I did wonder whether it might be possible to bore corresponding holes in any replacement blades, but concerns over blade balance etc. have prevented me from doing so thus far...

    Dodgy tooling or user error...?

Thanks guys. User error it is then  I'll put that one down to experience and a lesson learned... Cheers, Martin.

    Replacement blades for Scheppach TS2500

I recently bought a combination blade for my Scheppach TS2500, thinking that it would be compatible (correct bore etc), but on attempting to fit it I spotted that the existing blade has two lug holes, like this: The arbor has corresponding lugs which make it impossible to fit a conventional...

    Dodgy tooling or user error...?

Hi John. It was screwfix. In fact, part of this set... http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=100195&ts=36454&id=18144 Perhaps these are not suitable for use in a drill press... Martin.

    Dodgy tooling or user error...?

And I had thought the drill press was probably the safest machine in my workshop.... This was the result yesterday, after attempting to drill into some pine using this 10mm bit. In no time at all I'd had a hefty smack on the thumb, and the bit (and workpiece) were spinning around in the...

    Rebadged? & Fingers

According to Axminster, their jig can cut finger joints when used with a different cutter (http://www.axminster.co.uk/lkid/316/product-Axminster-Dovetail-Jig-21973.htm). Cheers, Martin.

    Axminster Medium Duty Bench (BENCH2)

Alf - many thanks for the tip - just as well you posted the extra picture (I don't subscribe to FWW). I assume that the larger/more expensive benches overcome this problem by ensuring that the vice screw is aligned with the bench dog holes... Dedee - good idea on the back panel. It's been...

    Axminster Medium Duty Bench (BENCH2)

Tony, Apart from my lousy build track record, the other thing that swung it for me (pre-built vs self-build) was the likely cost of the wood. No doubt I'd have spent at least as much (if not more) money on the raw materials without even considering the time and effort put it. Martin.

    Axminster Medium Duty Bench (BENCH2)

Thanks for the compliments guys . I thought it was about time I put something back into this great site/forum. @Midnight: Yep, I fully expect I'll be buying or building another one at some point - probably if/when I get a bigger workshop. Track record on making things will I hope...

    Axminster Medium Duty Bench (BENCH2)

Well, I finally took the plunge and invested in a workbench - the home made thing I had been managing on was never really a proper workbench and after many years of abuse, plus one too many workshop re-organisations, it was starting to show its age. I briefly toyed with the idea of building...

    Planning your woodwork

...but having said, I've just had a peek at the Sketch-up web site again and it does look impressive.....However, I'd be hard pushed to justify £300 or so... Martin.

    Planning your woodwork

Tim, You were also looking at the professional version, which you wouldn't need. Much of the functionality (including 3D modelling) is included in the standard/deluxe version, which can be picked up for about £60 in the shops. I actually looked at Sketchup previously and thought it was...

    Planning your woodwork

For me it depends on what I'm building, for what purpose etc. If it's a peice that's relatively straightforward and built for purpose (e.g. workshop cabinet) then I just play it by ear and see what I end up with. However, for "proper work" (that'll end up in the house, given away as presents...

    Good Woodworking Subscription

Gill, Try this: http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/store/displayitem.asp?sid=438&id=4305. There's no direct "subscribe here" link on the main goodworking site (abit surpirsing) - I got to this URL by going through the parent publisher's site... Martin.

    Where is Everyone?

Actually asking questions is the most intelligent thing you can do. There's not such thing as a dumb question IMO, and in anycase for every post that asks a question you can bet there are no end in the silent majority that were puzzling over the very same issue (which therefore gives the post...

    Which Table Saw PLEASE HELP!

Well I've just got to second Adam's point about the adjustable sliding table on the Scheppach. It really is a great feature. Whilst re-organising my workshop I've been building a mobile base/cupboard for my router table (which is Bosch metal/prefabricated job). Anyway, I'm knocking it...

60th birthday ideas for my guru

Well, this might not be in the price bracket you had in mind, but when my Dad turned 60 he organised his own party, along with cash contributions from those in attendance for his pressie - which was a beautiful hand made bronze cast of two greyhounds sleeping. Purely ornamental, and therefore...
