No . Memtest runs from the usb drive so does not actually touch the HDD that windows is on. Once you've created your bootable usb stick or cd, you tell you pc to boot from usb or cd first and then restart the pc. it then loads and runs from the usb and displays on your screen. any faults found...

If you're not averse to a screwdriver, you could also check and reSEAT any hardware cards like graphics/ network/ etc on the motherboard taking the appropriate precautions. Also you could try running Memtest a few times to check for faulty RAM. both of which can cause random crashes...

Which model DML? I believe the older ones have a 3/4x16TPI thread and the newer ones are M33 x 3.5 thread.

If your new mac is setup with the same Apple ID as the iPad, i believe that they will sync automatically (I know mine do (gmail)). AS an aside if you have trouble using your mail app whilst out and about, you should be able to use your account via a web browser e.g. https://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/
