    Rare earth magnets and Oak

Thats very reassuring - thanks, everyone :) I've used them to hold up a drop down flap on a TV cabinet. I had some tiny ones and I actually set them into an ebony plug to be on the safe side - this looks very nice but unfortunately they are a bit weedy and also don't give me any allowance...

    Rare earth magnets and Oak

They do contain iron (Nd2Fe14B I think) but they are nickel-coated so in theory they should be OK as long as the coating holds up - but I would feel more confident if someone here says that they have tried it and its fine! Cheers, Neil

    Rare earth magnets and Oak

Does anyone know if its safe to use rare earth magnets with Oak? I know that ordinary magnets react with the tannin and cause staining, but I've no idea about the rare earth type. Thanks, Neil

    trouble with cabinet design

Hi Stef, sorry I missed this on Friday. I finished it at the weekend - here it is 'flap-up' showing the two drawers under the main compartment. IR is supposedly achieved by the video sender (little silver box on cabinet top on right) although I think my toddler has broken it as I can't get...

    trouble with cabinet design

I'm just finishing a TV cabinet which isn't a million miles away from your design. Here is a view of the end panel: You're going to have to do something like this or else you'll be in big trouble with the wood movement (and the forces that the oak panel could impart are enormous!). You could...

    Router Table - Help Please

Hi Olly, It has three positions for height - there are two small wood blocks (in this picture there is one below & one above the guard) which you can move around to change the height. The lowest height is dictated by the size of the extraction pipe, though. Cheers, Neil

    Bosch Multipurpose Tool

Exactly what I did :D I think all the Fein attachments will fit the Bosch - they'll probably go straight on but may slip a little, or I'm sure that the adapter you mention would fit and that would stop the slipping. I've read that the Bosch blades have 10mm holes, like the old Fein, and as...

    The Tardis

Really good, Dan - any chance of some bigger pics? Cheers, Neil

    Bosch Multipurpose Tool

I'm 99% sure that they are compatible with the old model Fein, but they are definitely not compatible with the new Fein because the new star fitting is quite wide. I had the thought that you could bore the mounting hole out to a wider diameter but I haven't tried it. If you buy the Fein blades...

    Incra Wonderfence

Gaz, I got it off the Axminster clearance list - unfortunately they only do up to 6mm thickness now (this is 12mm stuff). I guess you could stick two layers together (although being slick plate it doesn't stick too well ) I think Rutlands do it - yep, here you go. Three times the...

    Incra Wonderfence

Yep, similar to Gidon except that my fence attaches with bolts from the back, going into threaded inserts in the (infilled) fence: Obviously I have to completely unscrew the bolts, take my fence off and screw on the Incra one, so I'm sure Gidon could beat me hands down in a 'swap the fence'...

    Incra Wonderfence

Tony, I think this is one thing where you are better off making your own, e.g.: If you ever need to offset the outfeed fence, its so easy just to stick some shims behind it. Cheers, Neil

Thanks, Gidon :) - don't make a special trip though. Cheers, Neil

Taunton (and other) woodworking books £1 at B&Q!

Nice one! Don't suppose you could pick up a copy of the bandsaw book for me if you're back there and see them again?  Cheers, Neil

Our big tree, storm damaged, help.

Noel, I'm no expert but from the close up, the remaining trunk at that point looks very weak. I'll email the pics to my Dad and ask him -- he used to do some tree surgery and should have a better idea. Cheers, Neil (Hi by the way, keep meaning to call you)

    Festool Domino

Gary, on the Domino demo DVD it shows the machine being used one-handed (i.e. plunging hand only) so I guess that there isn't really any appreciable kick. The video is probably online somewhere. Cheers, Neil
