    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Ok, unsurprisingly the Scheppach is taking the lead in the Planer/Thicknessers, and the DeWalt 733 is the most popular Thicknesser so far... Not many Planers so far - I thought that there would be lots of Perform/NuTool/Rexon planers appearing? NeilCFD

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Thanks everyone for your responses so far. I'm sorry the Maxi is such a lemon, Alf :( . I remember a few years ago when I first started to get really interested in woodworking, I looked at the Maxi in the Screwfix catalogue and thought that it was the best thing ever... Since then I have...

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Hi All, Sorry to be a bit monotonous, but CYC's table saw thread and Bilzee's Bandsaw thread are so useful, I thought maybe that we could do the same for planers, thicknessers and combined planer thicknessers. I have an ulterior motive here, as this is my next major purchase... Please reply...

    Veneer

Hi Aidan, You could try Vale Veneers - I think they would deliver to the North (but not to the South unfortunately :( ) http://www.stores.ebay.co.uk/valeveneers/plistings/list/all/dept0/index.html?dir=-1&col=2&sotimedisplay=2 NeilCFD

    Where to get Hardwood dowel?

In case you decide not to make your own, PlugIt sell hardwood dowel in lengths up to 915mm, in Oak, Cherry, Maple, Walnut & Mahogany, diameters from 6.6mm to 25mm. I haven't used them so I don't have any idea on prices etc. Tel: 01436 842669 Email: [email protected] NeilCFD

    Work bench top material....

Chris's firedoor blank suggestion (in the other thread) is excellent. I used one for my bench top and it has been brilliant, but it is only 610mm wide so I guess it won't be any use to you. Very cheap though - I got one with slight damage on one face (which I put downwards) and it cost less...

    Toggle clamps

Spot on Noel - Ballyhaunis is my local town! Still has the accolade as the smelliest town in Ireland unfortunately, although the smell fortunately doesn't reach me at home  Thanks for the Crowley Hardwoods link - they say they deliver nationwide so it might be just what I'm looking for...

    Toggle clamps

Hi Noel, I hadn't noticed about the counter - thanks, I'll tell Charley if it still says 20 after this post... <edit - it says 21 now - looks like the problem has gone away> I'm near the Roscommon/Mayo border - in the middle of nowhere really. At least I don't need to worry about disturbing...

    Toggle clamps

I couldn't find them either - I'm presuming they are in the catalogue but not online. Did you find them on the site, Gidon? Sorry - I wrote this offline and missed the replies! The Farnell ones look good too, and there is an Irish site with euro prices. NeilCFD

    Toggle clamps

Hi CYC, I've checked Wealden (www.wealdentool.net) as I'm planning to get some router cutters from them. It says on the site that they deliver to Ireland but of course this will not be free delivery like the lucky UK residents have! I have ordered a catalogue so when it arrives I will let you...

    "Bargain Bob" - Spam?

It is definitely something to do with Screwfix, as the mail I got was to an address that I've only ever used there. NeilCFD

    Yet another 'which router' question

Scrit, Thanks, thats a much better picture of the guards. I should be able to manage something along those lines... DaveL, I think I will make rather than buy a table and I've found plenty of good info, but I've also downloaded the Trend manual for your table and there is some useful stuff...

    Yet another 'which router' question

Thanks Scrit. I've downloaded the HSE info sheet and I must admit the Shaw guard arrangement in Fig. 3 looks much safer than using featherboards - thank you! The fence suggestion sounds good too - well within my budget  DaveL, Thanks for the suggestion - which Trend table do you...

    Yet another 'which router' question

Hi Scrit, Thanks for the advice. What is a Shaw guard? I was going to make some substantial featherboards, and make the cut in several passes. I'm also wondering about a suitable fence - I want to make something substantial as I don't want the whole thing lifting up, so I was going to use...
