Alf’s Workshop Tour - very long and potentially boring

A fantastic tour, Alf :D And a fantastic c*ll*ction of tools as well, that could only be accumulated after years of hoarding....oops, sorry, typo there - I meant to say carefully researched selective purchasing :^o :P If only I had a workshop that size... or will I? I'm saying nothing...

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Thanks, Mike - I had to look that one up. Just checking, it is a thickness planer rather than a jointer, isn't it? Neil

    Decking woods

Humm, thats the part I'm worried about... 8-[ - if Dublin City Council bought it, it must be overpriced! Neil

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Thanks, Dom. Also thanks for reminding me about this thread - I've now (finally!) bought a thicknesser myself and I've forgotten to add it  Makita 2012NB - worth the wait! :D Neil

    Decking woods

Hi CYC, How about Ekki as used for the Liffey boardwalk? I've been told about somewhere near the new house which supplies Irish Cedar, although I'm not sure if they will machine it into decking boards :? Neil

THE best price on workbench tops

Yup, you can often get slightly marked/dinged lengths of the beech worktop for the bargain price of £5 in the reduced section. At that price, you could sandwich 4 of them together! Neil

    Router/router table combinations

Hi Roger, The killer features for me are the coarse/fine adjust, the fact that all the vents are on top of the router (so when it is table-mounted, there will be less dust getting into the workings) and the fact that the collet protrudes sufficiently to get a spanner on it, so no need for an...

    Router/router table combinations

Simon, Give the Triton router serious consideration too - I bought the Makita 3612C, a fantastic machine and I'm sure it will go on for years, but if I could make my choice again for a dedicated table router, I would get the Triton. Check out Tony's review and also this review Cheers, Neil

Delta 25 piece sanding drum set

Roger, They are chalk & cheese. The first ones are very small (38mm high, biggest diameter 38mm) and you have to use the sleeve-type abrasives which limits your options on grits etc. This set can be found in a lot of cheap tool shops - I got mine for around €6(£4). Worth having for that sort...

    Eliminator Chuck

Thats very interesting, Chris - obvious once you pointed it out, but it didn't occur to me at all until then . Well, this makes a big difference, some of my cutters have really long shafts so this could cause problems. I think I'll be more patient waiting for an Eliminator than I was...

    Eliminator Chuck

Thanks Neil & Chris, I think I'll hang on for a while in case an Eliminator is released for the Makita, but if I get too desparate in the meantime I'll go for the XX. Did either/both of you get the XX from Roger Pheaby, or direct from the US? Neil

    Eliminator Chuck

Thanks for that, Chris - it really does look the business, exactly what I need in fact. I'm particularly impressed that the vibration was minimal. Unfortunately it appears that there isn't one for the Makita 3612C yet :-({|= , I'll just have to hope that there is one in the pipeline. So are...
