    What to read

This is my favourite woodworking book - absolutely inspirational. Chris, do you have Karg's other book, 'Modern Cabinetmaking in Solid Wood'? It is out of print and quite difficult (and expensive) to get hold of, and I'm worried that it may be just a rehash of the same stuff that is in the...

Cambridge area members - beer festival...

You mean you don't have the very nice Festool catalogue in amongst your reference material? [-X :P. Worth it, if only for the funny pictures of people struggling with non-Festool kit (my favourite - paint-stirrer), alongside the pic showing the effortless use of a nice green-and-black model...

Cambridge area members - beer festival...

Ryobi, Festool, Festool and.... Festool unless I'm mistaken, Alf  Pete, let us know what you think of the CT22 when you've recovered from the festival :P Cheers, Neil

    Does this sound right

Hi Waka, Both items are listed in Axminster's clearance items email, so I would guess that they have discounted them over their 'normal' price. As of a week ago, they only had 7 offset drivers and 5 right-angle drivers, so you'd better order quick! :P  Cheers, Neil

Have a nice day at the office, dear

Congrats, Steve :D - does this mean we'll be seeing less Steve Maskery projects in GWW?? :( Cheers, Neil

    Edge joining red western cedar

Except that Simon has already had a Freud, and consigned it to the bin!   From my own experiences and posts on the forum, it seems that for any biscuit jointer below the £200-ish level that the pro makes come in, there is a much increased chance of getting a dud one - by the...

    Tools 2005 - Irish Possie

Can I give an 'expression of interest' rather than a firm commitment, Les? I do want to go this year having missed out last year, but I'm not sure if I'll have got over the shock of becoming a parent by November   Cheers, Neil PS How big is the boot on this car of yours?? :P...

    Plan Printing

Hi Gill, No clever solution from me - I'm afraid I just use the Blue Peter approach... Cheers, Neil

Veritas Plane Review - Bevel-Up Smoother

You might be right, Andy - I'll certainly need to make a big tool cabinet anyway! Cheers, Neil

    Festool TS75 Plunge Saw

Hi Pete - it is measured without the rail - take 5mm off for on-the-rail cutting depth. Cheers, Neil

    Help needed about inherited tools

You're absolutely right, Noely - I flipped it in an unsuccessful attempt to get the iron from the #7 in it - about 1mm too wide! BB, it was actually the other honing guide I was wondering about - this one I know you wouldn't have, Alf :) I can hardly believe it myself, Mike - I just wish...

    Help needed about inherited tools

Thanks, everyone :) Apparently it is a Record #040...well done, Alf, not a good picture to go on there! =D> Sorry, Alf, I must admit that I missed that. Hope I haven't caused too much pain & suffering :P  BB, any idea about the honing guide on the first page of posts? Home-made...

    Trend fasttrack

Looks awfully expensive for something that is limited to two honing angles... Cheers, Neil

    Help needed about inherited tools

Thanks for that, BB - I haven't got around to the Preston rule yet, I'll be very careful when I do. Christmas every day at the moment - my Mum has moved on to the tools in the attic now, and has just sent more pics. I've marked a few things I'm not sure about with green arrows for you experts...

    Help needed about inherited tools

Hi Mike, Thank you - I think you are completely right about the connection. The #077A has been used often since I started this post (Over a year ago! How did that happen??) - as you say, it just feels great in the hand. It has such a good weight for its size. When using it, I like...

    Help needed about inherited tools

Thanks Roger, Alf :) I only have this photo to go on at the moment, there is a big chunk of the Irish Sea between the tools and me! I'll ask my mum to take a couple of close-ups. Yeah, I'm starting to worry... 8-[ Cheers, Neil

    Help needed about inherited tools

My Mum has been sorting through the garage and has found these goodies for me: Any ideas about the items in top left corner, 2nd and 3rd items down? Bevel gauge at bottom right looks nice... Even some oilstones to keep Alf happy! :P Anything else look particularly interesting? Sorry about...
