    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Well, over 2 1/2 years after starting this thread I've finally got my Jet 54A to go with the Makita thicknesser which I've had for about 18 months \:D/. Amazing the effect that babies have on your tool purchasing capability! Anyway, I've got there in the end :occasion5: - hope it was worth...

Thanks, CYC - I'll have to pick up three gates next time I'm in Dublin. Cheers, Neil

    Blastgates - plastic or aluminium?

Many thanks, gents - so its self-build or aluminium. To be honest, as I only need three at the moment I may as well just buy them. Noely, I think McQuillans in Dublin may have the self-cleaning type you showed there - I'll ask CYC as I know he has just bought some. Thanks again, Neil

    Festool Prices

I didn't know that - have you got a link or model number? I would have expected to see a Mafell version, but not Metabo (although I guess the Festool & Metabo belt sanders are one and the same, so it wouldn't be completely unexpected) Cheers, Neil

    Blastgates - plastic or aluminium?

The message subject says it all, really - I would be interested to hear if anyone has any opinions as to whether aluminium blast gates are better than the plastic ones. There isn't a huge difference in price for the number of gates I need - a total of three for a small system with short pipe...

Price to fit an external door?

Well, for my quote it was for a back door so no letterbox. No glazing either - this was for a unglazed door. It would have included fitting of locks though (I hope!) Cheers, Neil

Price to fit an external door?

I'd say so, Dennis - I could fly you over here, put you up in a hotel for the night and still save money! Cheers, Neil

Price to fit an external door?

Thanks, everyone - nice to have confirmation that the price is as crazy as I thought it was. Looks like I'll be hanging the door myself, even if I get someone else to make it. Cheers, Neil

Price to fit an external door?

SWMBO has just got a quote for a new 'hardwood' back door from the main supplier of wood doors & windows in my area (Munster Joinery). Price for the door itself was pretty steep at €750, but not that far off what I expected. But you could have knocked me down with a feather when she told me...

    Incra Router positioning jig

Hi Barry, I would strongly recommend the Ultra-Lite - there is just no need to have the length of travel of the larger models. Haven't really looked into the original positioning jig though - it wasn't available when I got the Ultra-Lite. A useful thread here, my review of the Ultra-Lite here...

    SU dimensions

Right-click the dimension - select 'Entity Info' - click 'Style' button - choose 'Align to Dimension Line' and 'Outside' Hopefully this will do what you need. I have this nagging thought that because you're using a Mac you might not have a right mouse button, or do they nowadays? Cheers, Neil
