    Kees...show me your planes!!

Been thinking of how to taper-may have to take a peek at what I have laying around to see how much of a taper is there. Slotting is easy-peasy, and tapering may be also to my tool maker.

    Kees...show me your planes!!

Remember your avatar photo on SMC? That will be me visiting! Prepare thyself (just joking). Anyhow, I will visit sometime over the next months-after hockey concludes! I'll be in town often for the Pirates, but that's not near as good as the Penguins. I'm toying with is making up some plane...

Very nice job! Saw them over on SMC, and tis a shame David does not visit over there anymore.

    Planing parallel sides?

Spot on, and what helps me is to have the bevel of the gage towards the waste (flat towards the good) and work to the start of the beveled mark, then carefully clean up from there.

How often do you need to burnish or dress a cabinet scraper?

Regarding a card scraper, first you must have the edge square, then polish edge & sides, being careful to not round the edge. On the side run your burnisher a few times, so the burr is an extension of the side, then set the card upright and using your burnisher, roll the burr to the angle you...

    bendy cap irons

Definition/detail is as good as the drawing. I bought the machine for rapid prototyping and design of prodcut to avoid leadtime to build prototype tooling to determine feasibility of design for powder metal process. We can do in hours what once took weeks.

    bendy cap irons

I gave the plane away after I got it working-to a handtool newbie, though I didn't tell him it was a HF. I generally stay out of HF. Your engineer friend is spot on. In the case of HF, you have to wonder what exactly the market is? Earlier this week, I took delivery of a 3d printer, in order...

    Help finding a Framing Square

Many, many years ago, I served a four year carpenter apprenticeship. I had my Sargent square, with values on it, but we had to learn the Stanley square-hours and hours of figuring out rafters that we would never encounter. My Sargent was outlawed!

    Philip Marcou.

Well now you can describe to this curmudgeon how to do it! My computer experience goes back to Cobol in the mainframe days, and I can't get my head around posting pics!

Very nice photos Charlie! I miss my daughters coming down into my shop, but now I have a couple of grandsons (2 years old) starting to come into the pictures!

    bendy cap irons

Meant 1/8" David! I picked the thing up during the craze just to see how many American dollars could be put into a dirt cheap plane to make it perform. Seems to me, LV or some other mail order company did something similar years ago. Fact is, there is not a whole lot of difference between...

    bendy cap irons

I doubt there has been a plane made that can't be made to perform, though the quest is always cost/benefits accreued of spending $$$$ on a cheap plane to the point the amount spent exceeds on of the moderm premiums available. About a half dozen years ago, I took one of the Harbor Freight...

    Help finding a Framing Square

In the US, Sargent produced a similar framing, but it was not metric!

Fashion and the Art of Hand Planing.

Derek, Took delivery of a CBN wheel Friday (180 grit, IIRC, regardless the grit you suggested). Simply great! I put a concave grind on a Marples beater chisel, nearly to the edge, without any uncomfortable heat to my finger tips! Great suggestion for those that grind! Thanks, T.

Derek: what grinding wheel do you use for hollow grinding? Your CBN? Thanks, T.Z.

Thanks Derek. I'm going to try a CBN on the slow speed Woodcraft grinder I have.
