    Handle wood omnibus

2008 (remember the year well, as it was the year before our middle daughter got married), I experimented quite a bit with resin impregnated wood (for turning), and in fact sent out turning stock to several boutique chisel makers. Several years after another maker started offering resin...

    Handle wood omnibus

Parts I manufacture for export, palletized on special heat treated pallets, with inspection stamp. Have received import shipments with no stamp!

    Another plane iron durability test

You gave me some stuff to ponder, Dave. Heat treat and draw is possible to make one steel act as another, for example a D2 as A2 or S7. Now, I can also take parts I make (my employees), from conventional powder metal and spot heat treat portions, and I would imagine the same process (it was a...

    Handsaw Disston Double Duty D-17

I wouldn’t mind having one either, but the Saw is pretty short! Maybe a winter project of filing my own!

    Handsaw Disston Double Duty D-17

Seems to have a tooth pattern similar to the saw introduced (in the states), by “Tools for Working Wood”, think it is called a tool box saw.

"Tools from our family" or "Toolbox genealogy"

My dad passed in 2004 at age 81, and in the decade and a half prior, he gave me most of the hand tools he used. Between now and then, the line between what he gave me and what I bought, is gone! I suppose the best statement is, his tools have been used!

Chinese Copies of the Knew Concept Coping saws

Search “YouTube” for videos named China Tools, and you will see blatant knock-offs of tools weeks after newly being introduced. This past week Amazon had a chamfer plane identical to the red anodized plane introduced by Woodpecker late this past summer, with the seller even using Woodpecker ad...

    hollowgrindin' virgin

Heat is your enemy and the wrong wheel on a too fast grinder is your ticket to problems! 180 grit CBN wheel on a slow speed grinder, with a good rest and some experience, will get you started. With experience, it can be quicker than other methods, but you will still have time on your stones.

    plane blade upgrade

Pat Leach has a couple of unused Clifton irons, one with the "StaySet" cap, on his list that was sent out yesterday. Believe the price was north of $100 for all three (not sure of price). Seem to remember one of the irons was for a #8.

    Spiers number 1...blinged

About how much time did you have in producing the plane sole? Did you resort to any power tools for any parts of the process? Thanks in advance! T.

Beautiful plane! You should be doing this commercially!

    Spiers number 1...blinged

If the gaps really bother you, why not do a repair that is reversible (or at least will not cause further potential degradation? Some expoxies will match to color of the plane body quite well. JB Weld has an aluminum colored one, that comes to mind. Mix up, fill the voids and lightly scrub...

    Paramo Vices

I believe in Scott Landis's book on workbenches he included a bit of a discussion of Paramo vises. If I remember correctly, he stated the company was founded by former employees of Record, describing them as almost copies of the latter, except with far more hand finishing. I can't recall...

Clifton needs to make a router plane

The tooling cost for a router similar to the Walke-Moore tool, would be very high, for casting and associated parts. It is a lovely product, but to produce, it would have to be a labor of love. In other words, quite risky. However, to do a fully machined product on a CNC, would be more cost...
