    Would it be crazy to............

Thanks for all your input everyone. I'll forget about it for a couple of days now and make my mind up later. I will probably do a WIP so you will all know what that decision was. Merry Christmas everyone.

    Would it be crazy to............

They're my thoughts exactly dzj but I wanted confirmation/moral support on that before I go ahead. Fitzroy I think choosing the right combination will be a challenging and enjoyable design decision. :D AJB I already have (and have read most of) Chris Schwarz 'The workbench design book' and...

    Would it be crazy to............

In the new year I'm going to build a new work bench. I was going to buy the wood for it but I have a lot of very dry hard woods sitting in my barn. Not enough of any one species to make a whole bench though. So would it be crazy to make a bench out of several different woods? The woods are oak...

When I said 'some' I meant 2, one for each of my daughters. Not planning on selling them.

Can I leave a book review Chris Tribe's Complete Woodworking

Hi All I saw Chris's book at Harrogate and sat and went through it for a few minutes. That's all I needed to know I was going to buy it. (I couldn't at the time because it wasn't officially on sale then). There was a lot in that I was interested in including veneering and inlay. Good luck with...

    Best lighting for a workshop?

No one has mentioned Sodium lights yet. I guess there's a reason for that! I only bring them up because a friend of mine says he put two in a large barn and lit the place up like daylight and they were cheap to run. I have to point out that this friend is not known for his reliability, hence...

    Best lighting for a workshop?

Good points Phil, I'll definitely put in different circuit. The place is 9 x 4 metres and most of the time I will be only using it for bench work in a small corner.

    Best lighting for a workshop?

Deema how do we spot the ones that do and don't have the 'over drive'?

    Best lighting for a workshop?

Very interesting article Beau. On the one hand I couldn't make my mind up which option was best (fluo or led) on the other hand they seemed so close it doesn't seem worth stressing over it because they are both so close! Didn't really want to paint the walls white, but I have conceded that it...

    Best lighting for a workshop?

The 'strobe light effect' won't be an issue with me as the room I'm lighting won't have any machinery in.

    Best lighting for a workshop?

Thanks Neil, I'll probably paint the ceiling white but I'm not sure about the walls yet. I did think about a lamp for the work bench but I find with lamps I always get shadows as I change the angle of work.

    Best lighting for a workshop?

What size is your workshop? And what size and how many lights did you fit?

    Best lighting for a workshop?

Hi All, Just considering converting a barn into a bench working area and wondered what you considered good lighting for a dark barn? Fluorescent, sodium or something else?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Very nice Custard. It reminds me of Doucette and Wolfe's work, which I love.

What to do with a Lime tree?

Thanks guys that makes sense. Wildman you're welcome to come over in the motorhome. I have plenty of space for it and will swap you some Lime for a couple of carving lessons.

What to do with a Lime tree?

Hi Everyone, today my neighbours dropped off a Lime tree for me, but as I'm not a carver and don't do much turning I wondered if any of you had any ideas as to what I can do with it?

Which course, Paul Sellers or Peter Sefton

+1 for Chris Tribe. http://www.christribefurniturecourses.com/ Can't comment on Peter or Paul's courses as I haven't done them, but on personality alone I would go for Peter. But all have something to offer.
