Inserting marble into a table top?

Hi Guys, Sorry that I haven't being replying but I've been away. Thanks for replies, they've brought up some interesting points. There is, however, a lot more to this story, but at first I thought I'd just keep it simple and let you know what I thought was important to get the answers required...

Inserting marble into a table top?

Hi No skills, You probably won't believe this but...I had an almost identical thought process. Only I was thinking of using a router to make the 'chess board pattern', not a circular saw, as the router would take out more waste. But would it work? Has any body tried this approach? I don't want...

    Vagaries of ebay....

Hi Chris, I've dealt with this company before, quite a few times infact, especially when it was Ribble Valley. I don't think there's anything dodgy going on. I've always found them great to deal with. But I was watching the same item (plus a few others of theirs) and was suprised at the price...

Inserting marble into a table top?

Hi Pete, He may actually use slate, it's a toss up. How were you planning on making the recess? I don't want to cut right through the table and make a rebate for the slate/marble (ot rather my friend doesn't want me to), but routing out an area that big and keeping it nice and tidy willpose a...

Inserting marble into a table top?

Hi everyone, I have a friend who has a Cherry wood table top which is about 50mm thick. He wants me to remove a section from the middle of the table and insert a slab of marble (probably about 15mm). What's the best way to do this bearing in mind the length and width of the marble will be around...

    What people make?

Hi Nick, As a relative new comer to woodworking I think that showing pictures of work the quality of which Dodge has posted can have a negative effect. I sometimes look at the quality work posted on the forum (or anywhere for that matter) and think that I'll never be able to achieve that...

    Sign Making

Wow Superunknown that's fantastic =D> Unfortunately I don't think I have the skill to do something like that. How long did it take you to get to that level? How long did it take to do the sign? Did you finish with standard chisels or carving chisels? Simon - I may have a go at making my own...

    Sign Making

A friend of mine wants me to make him a few signs - names engraved in wooden plaques. Is there an easy way to do this for a non carver? I know Trend do letter and number templates, but they are a little expensive for a favour. Is there a less expensive alternative? TIA Froggy.

    PLEASE HELP ***ASK TOOLS***

Russel's a one man band and as such you get the personal treatment from him. He's knowledgable and helpful and his shipping prices to France are very reasonable. He's a woodturner and does tend to specialise in turning tools, but has a decent cross section of general woodworking tools. Hope...

YOKB II - Kent Bash Gathering

Hi Tom, My wife's a nurse and works every other weekend, but if that's her weekend off I'll make one in. Won't know for sure until April though as she only gets her rota the month before!

    Axminster web site

Hi Sean/Steve, I use fiefox and the OS is Windows Ultimate 7. I haven't mentioned before now, but as Steve brought it up, the Axminster site does 'hang' for long periods. It's a shame, because the web site doesn't reflect what is otherwise a good supplier.

    Axminster web site

I don't have this problem with any other web site. So I guess it must be something to do with Axminster, but as not everyone has the problem perhaps it's something to do with the way their system interacts with certain operating systems - mine being Windows ultimate 7.

    Axminster web site

Hi everyone, Is it just me or is there a problem with with the Axminster web site? Everytime (correction - almost everytime) I try to view 'my basket' the page overlaps with another page and I can't make anything out! It's very frustrating and it's been like that for month now. At first I...

    Steak board in Oak?

That's a good point Tom and one I considered today before I read your post. Do you have a recommendation? I believe Tite Bond do something that's food safe and waterproof. In terms or the finishing oil - the customers have said they want to do that themselves, which takes the decision...

    Steak board in Oak?

Two valid points as it's for a restaurant that want 20/25 pieces. I'll be sure to pass on both bits of info. Thanks Simon
