    Building a wooden cow!!

Marcros - I was at a theme park with a zoo over the summer holidays and they had some lovely tree carvings of animals there, but unfortunately a bit beyond my capabilities.

    Building a wooden cow!!

Hi Cottonwood, No I'm not a carver so that is out of the question. I was thinking about possibly creating a 2D template and cutting out 2 of them and joining them with some noggins. That would be within my capabilities, but not sure if that's what they are looking for. If I could have a few...

    Building a wooden cow!!

No I'm not kidding  I live in a rural part of France and one of the small villages here is very well know as it has several concrete sheep dotted around the village. It's quite amusing and it's put the village on the map. Today I was approached by the president of aclub that I am a...

    French Auction

Hi Jack, As you may know if you import from France there was a tempest in 1999 in the Limousin region (which is where I live). It downed a large percentage of the vast amoumt of woodland in the area and the locals still have barns full of it (planked but waney edged). Normally this is the wood I...

    French Auction

Hi All, Just recently got a call from a friend who went to a local (in France) auction. It was an unfortunate eboniste (cabinet maker) who had gone bust. The thing that caught my imagination was 10 pieces of Oak. Apparantly all from the same giant tree. Each plank was approx. 5mtrs long by...

    SM crown guard

No I haven't got shaw guards  Need them too. The fences I am making out of ply. For those of you who might be concerned, I won't be using the spindle moulder until I have checked all the safety features are in place and one or two lessons from a friend who already has one.

    circular saw blade

Hi Reg, As it's 16mm arbor (hole) and not 1" as you previously thought, you do realise that you can buy 16mm blades more readily than 1" and do away with the need for reducers at all?

    circular saw blade

I'm playing devil's advocate when I ask this next question so don't all go off on one, but if a 25 mm bore blade fits a 1" arbor then wouldn't a 25-30mm reducer be better than a 1" - 30mm as it's a bit tighter than 25.4mm? Someone mentioned balance, but wouldn't the balance be better with a...

    circular saw blade

Hi Reg, I had the same problem. You're right the 25.4mm is the arbor and the equivalent to 1". However I can fit 25mm arbor blades on to my 25.4mm spindle and I often buy 30mm arbor blades and use a 30mm-25mm reducer. It might be wise to borrow a blade with a 25mm arbor first and try it or at...

    Modern Woodworking Machine Company leicester

Hi Everyone, Can anyone point me in the direction of any info about the Modern Woodworking Machinery Co. please? I've searched the net but can't find much at all. I'm particularly interested in their spindle moulder as I'm about to become the proud owner of one? The machine I'm getting was a 3...

Hi Eveyone, Two or three years when a was a newbie to woodworking I asked if anyone fancied a working holiday in France and was lucky enough to have Chris Tribe take up the offer and things turned out very nicely. question for expats in France

Hi Johnluc, I live near Sue in the Limousin and have the same issues as you. Tools and accessories are generally cheaper in the UK but the postage chargers are constantly going up and reduce the savings made on the tools. Where abouts in France are you? It might be worth a few of us exchanging...
