    Shaker End Tables

Just seen the thread and I think you've done really well considering! They look and suit the piece very well. That's always one of the hardest parts for me; creating something looks good but doesn't overpower the rest of the piece or look to dull. Not sure what I'm going to do for this...

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

Bob, thanks for clarifying. Not to worry too much, though - I've had another look at it is only the 45° mitre. I guess it was a kind of optical illusion when I looked this morning, with the curve of the wheel and everything. :) Do you have any other advice on doing this though? Is there...

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

Hi Bob, I just want to check I understand what you are saying... Obviously, the ends are cut to a 45° angle on the face. Are you also saying that the edge cuts should be bevelled slightly? That looks to be how the bottom wheel on my saw is done. Well, this morning, I took the plunge and...

    Which wood for deck chairs

Tom's got a point although, I've been reading some very good things about Osmo's UV Oil - here. :)

    Evening up insert drawer fronts?

I think I'd try and plane something off one of the back corners, so you can bring the front edge on that same side around a bit. I agree that you don't want to taper the drawer front, if you can help it. At least the drawer sides (and back) are less visible it might help to stop them catching on...

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

Here, you can see the hole for the top wheel, which is where the blade (and probably the tyre) made a quick escape: Pete, yes, I could build some form of magnetic box-guard to sit over it. However, I'm gradually becoming more aware of when blades are going to break so, after trashing the tyre...

    Raised beds (now with pics)

Salvage and Reclamation yards are supposed to be a good source for scaffold planks. That's where Rico "The Salvager" Daniels used to get his, anyway. There's bound to be one locally in your Yellow Pages and, with a bit of bartering, you may be able to get a good deal. :)

    Assembling jet 60A planer

Do not remove the springs! But, do try reducing the amount of 'drag' to 2mm. In the past, I've also found that 3mm can lead to snipe but, with 2mm of drag, I couldn't complain.

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

Hi guys, thanks for all your comments. Thanks also to the mod who changed the title... No worries. Mark, the only reason I mentioned replacing the wheel was because when I spoke to Startrite previously about the gouges, they advised that I would "have" to buy a complete wheel, as...

Oh dear, bandsaw blade goes airborne...

What is it about Mondays?!? :x Admittedly, I was rushing, as I had to go out this morning (just got back) and I wanted to get the timber planed up before I left. Over the weekend, I was resawing some oak and I think that just about finished off the 1/2" x 3tpi blade I had been using (it was...

    Which wood for deck chairs

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Tom, as long as the wood isn't bone dry. It's going to expand and contract, split and crack with annual changes through the seasons, anyway. I've made gates from timber that is both air and kiln-dried and the wood is always going to move.

    Which wood for deck chairs

Hi Colin, Iroko is highly durable but, where the grain tends to interlock, it's not always easy to work (plus, there's the hazard of the dust). Sapele can also have interlocking grain issues but tends to be a little easier to work, I think. Then again, despite what many believe, it's not as...

    Respirator

That visor is robust, yes. Though, it's not the easiest thing to fit and remove, depending on where and how you like to store your mask. You need to remove the front cover to do this, as you would when changing the filter.

    Algae Removal - Garden Furniture

Hi Rod, Last summer, I used some of Liberon's Garden Furniture Cleaner. It took a couple of applications with a wire brush but, it worked a treat! After few fresh coats of oil, our benches were looking almost as good as new! 8) I forget which oil I used (it was probably Teak oil?) but it does...

    what matches mahogany

Beech might work but I'd personally prefer something slightly 'warmer', like ash or even oak. Unless you were finishing the piece with oil; in which case, that would darken the beech somewhat. Sycamore and maple would be other choices, if you wanted something that pale.

    Brown trouser moment

...Is the blade alright? :D Seriously, glad to hear that your injuries weren't any worse! I used to work with a guy who had a scar on his neck from where the riving knife had come lose and contacted the up-rising teeth! :? Though, to be fair, he was working with the crown guard removed and...

FOR SALE - ADE1200 Extractor -SOLD

Mark, I had the same problem with the rod on my extractor. To solve it, I simply remove the top-half and secured it with a lock nut from below. Now, it doesn't wobble or anything! 8) It's not easy doing this on your own as the motor is also attached to the top but, it certainly solved the...

    Respirator

I'm another satisfied user of the Trend AirAce and have been wearing might for about five-years now. As an additional note, they do produce a charcoal filter, which sits over the standard filters and is supposed to prevent vapours from getting through. I did buy one last year but haven't yet...

    Shaker End Tables

They look nice, Chems. I might have made the legs slightly thicker or kept them slightly wider at the bottom of the tapers but, it's fine line between having something that looks like too much a taper and a tapered leg that still looks parallel... If that makes sense! :D You probably wouldn't...

    Floor Standing Thicknessers?

Yes, we'd all be happy with that setup, if only we all had space like yours... :P  :D
