Axminster CT150 planer - no volt switch problem

Is your switch like the one you can just about see in my photo? I bought this one second-hand a few weeks ago. It's a 2005 model. I have found that sometimes, when I press the green switch, the motor starts but then cuts out again immediately (brake still works). Sometimes, I have to push it...

What was the first thing you remember making??

Mine was a simple maze, which you tilt to direct three small, steel balls in to the centre. It's sat right next to me now and it looks horrible! :-D This was back in a DT lesson at school when I was thirteen, I think. Only fourteen years ago but, I feel my woodworking has come a long way since...

    Commisioning a chest of drawers

Hi Rob, I'm sorry I missed the event at Axminster. It had completely slipped my mind (had a lot going on the last few months) and, by the time I realised, I wouldn't have been able to have taken the day off work. I'm sorry I missed it as it seems quite likely it was one of those 'one time only'...

    Commisioning a chest of drawers

I should've elaborated on my original message, because I was looking at this as a much 'simpler' construction. I mean, the client is looking at a wardrobe that costs only £800. It's obvious straight away that to reproduce something similar in solid oak with traditional joint construction was...

    Commisioning a chest of drawers

It might work out cheaper than the wardrobe you've linked to but, if that was the case, I'm not sure it would be significantly cheaper. If you were happy with a mostly veneered MDF construction (solid oak lippings on the edges) then, that would certainly help to reduce the costs. I can't imagine...

    Setting planer knives/advice needed

I've got the same machine (slightly older, with the aluminium fence) and, like several others on here, I discovered that the thicknessing bed is about 0.5mm out from the cutter block. This may not sound like a great deal but, if you're feeding boards down both sides of the bed (as you should, to...

    Applying formica to MDF

When I made my router table a few years ago, I used a cheap brand of contact adhesive to bond the Formica to the MDF and it's held very well indeed. Any surplus glue (on your hands or on the show face of the laminate, for example) can be cleaned away with white spirit.

That's brilliant, very well done! =D>

    Table Saw/Router Table Station

An update on this one is too long overdue. As I finally made it back in to the workshop over the weekend then, here we go... So, what I wanted to do next was to extend the mounting track for the fence, so that it could be used across the width of the router table as well. For this, I purchased...

Getting a bit of wood machined

300mm or 12in is generally the shortest that your average thicknesser will be able to take (without firing it back at you!). You only need to know the distance between the centres of the two feed rollers to work it out on any machine; that's the minimum that the machine can safely support. What...

Axminster - Be Aware of 2012 Prices

There is one good thing I noticed in the new Axminster catalogue. Well, it's good news for anyone who owns their Jet JBOS-5 bobbin sander, that is... The 3in bobbin/spindle assemblies are now about half the price of what they were previously! 8-) It's still sad to see that their CT1502 surface...

    Wadkin table saw restoration

If WD40 doesn't do the job, I've found Penetrating Oil (3-in-1 produce one) to be excellent at freeing up stubborn parts. It can take a couple of applications and some time and patience to let the oil do the work but, it could do the job.

    My second little project

Very nice for only a second project. Look forward to seeing the third. :-) If this is what you class as a "small" project then, I'm certainly keen to see one of your 'larger' projects! ;-)

    workshop clean(ish)

That does look very nice. You appear to have everything where it needs to be and where it can be accessed easily.

    Identify this tool!?

I have one of those Wolfcraft jigs and used it to drill the dog holes in my workbench top, two years ago: It works pretty well. Obviously, it's not going to be as accurate as a pillar (although, I appreciate the impracticalities of those in some situations) but it did the job. If you're...

    AW106PT Fence Storage

Ah, yes, I remember seeing someone mention that this was possible a couple of years ago - it must have been you, woodshavings. ;-) I guess it depends on how much space you have around the machine... For one thing, I currently have to rotate my machine 180° when changing between modes so that...

    AW106PT Fence Storage

Thanks, guys (sorry for not replying sooner). If you mean 'fence' Rob then, yes, you are correct. ;-) Both tables are cast iron on both the old and new models of this machine. If I could have my time again, I would probably have done some more research and looked for a second-hand Kity P/T...

    Rutlands.

I've not used any pocket hole jig before. With regards to the movement some people experience, clamping the joint should avoid that; both while drilling the holes and fitting the screws later. There are clamps available to help you 'assemble' a pocket screw joint (made by Rocker -...

    Workbench Dilema

I built my own bench a couple of years ago and based much of the design on Robert Lang's 21st Century Workbench (I forget whether it's Popular Woodworking or Fine WW...): The front edge of the top is flush with the front face of the frame. This does help when you want to plane the edge of a...

I went Christmas shopping today ...

Do tell us... How much??? And, where is this? Very nice haul, by the way. :-)
