    Carpenter's pencils

I see Rutland are e-mailing an offer on these. They may be fine for carpentry, but totally useless for the sort of woodwork I do. I use ordinary pencils, buy them by the dozen, and go for whatever is bright yellow so I can find them wherever they hide, but I wondered what you guys use?

I'd be grateful for some router tuition

from someone in the Bristol area. Specifically, I need to learn how to rout cross-grain dadoes with a hand-held router, and I'd prefer some one-to-one tuition. I'm becoming more relaxed with my table-mounted router, but would appreciate someone showing me how to do non-table stuff. If anyone...

    Lidl - 12th November

Today I sharpened the chisels I bought in Lidl yesterday, and they seem to hold their edge well. I'm very impressed, four quite reasonable chisels for £6.99.

How do you seal wax finish?

For the above, I believe a sanding sealer is required before Bri waxing. Rodders Is a sanding sealer a different animal to a coat of Danish oil?

    Please help me get inspired

I'm sure you're right on the first couple of points Custard, but my experience of trying to find a keen youngster is different. However, on your third point, there are often requests on this forum for help for beginners, and I've recently helped someone as a direct result. Where would be the...

    Please help me get inspired

Some really interesting ideas coming to the surface in this thread, one of which is that there are single workers who'd enjoy/benefit from teaming up with someone else, or taking on a keen youngster (rare as hen's teeth, in my experience). I've looked for such a youngster, as I have an inner...

    Rutlands - pricing and reviews?

They sent me an e-mail yesterday, advertising a 3D router pantograph, which I'm really interested in! So I went onto their website, and the item is "out of stock". Peculiar!

    Problem with edging

Only other thing I can suggest is trying edging from another manufacturer. I rarely had problems with edging from SMC Wholesale Edging of Exeter (01392 217635) but I don't know if they do a 30mm wide edging. I only ever needed 22mm wide. Good luck!

    Problem with edging

I know the problem well! Have you tried running a hot iron along each edge, at an angle? That sometimes works. Whatever you do, don't try to disguise it with a black felt marker - don't ask me how I know this! :(

    Probably something simple...

Have you stored it upright, Steve, or upside down? I was told if stored upside down, any skin would form on the top, so when you inverted it and took the top off, all you got was paint with no skin.

    Iron-on edging for melamine boards

I have several dozen reels of this, 22mm wide, and in a wide variety of wood grains. They're surplus to requirements, and anyone in the Bristol area is welcome to them. I'd prefer them to all go together.

    Pocket hole jig

I recently bought a Dakota jig from Rutlands, 'cause it was cheap! lol The two screwdriver bits were soft as butter, rounded over immediately, and I can't be bothered to return it as the jig itself is OK. So I ordered what seems to be the same screwdriver bits from Axminster, and they've...
