    15mm Contiboard shelving

Thanks, guys - more for me to chew on. I like the idea of 18mm from Wickes....

    15mm Contiboard shelving

Thanks for your reply, Robin. I'd already thought of that, and it may well be the best solution in the end.

    15mm Contiboard shelving

I need to make several columns of shelving, between 21" wide verticals of the same material. I'd appreciate suggestions of how to rigidly fix it all together, but would prefer to avoid screws through, as the heads would show. 15mm is too thin to rout grooves for the shelf ends, so I'm veering...

    Plywood box construction

Depending on how young your grandkids are, I'd fit the boxes with wheels and a rope handle, they'd enjoy that as much as the presents inside!

Thanks GO, that's a kind offer. I've registered my e-mail address with Machine Mart, and hope to get deluged with offers tomorrow. If I hear nothing in 24 hours I'll take you up on it tomorrow evening. And thanks again.

    Screwfix special offers

I've studied Machine Mart's website, and can't find any mention of VAT-free items or offers. I'd appreciate someone telling me about it, as there's a bench sander I'd like to buy.

    Drilling matching holes

Haha! I bet you're going to try telling us it was your wife/partner's lipstick! Actually that's a very good tip. I've got a white liquid marker that would work. Thanks for the idea!

    Problem planing a fire door

I've never dealt with a fire door myself, but surely the intumescent strip will also go down the hinge side?

    Carpenter's pencils

My limited experience with a clutch pencil was that the lead was so thin that any firm pressure at all resulted in it snapping, and I gave it up as a good idea that didn't work in practice. Some of you obviously don't find the same - are the leads thicker these days?

Haha! You don't already have a first aid kit? Why am I laughing, neither do I, and I'm a qualified nurse! I have kitchen roll and phase tape, what more do I need?

    Carpenter's pencils

Hmmm. I guess it's a personal thing, but red doesn't stand out for me,, it's got to be yellow! And with so much junk on my worktop..... :)

    Work experience / Helper

It's not easy if you're a loner. You suddenly have to think for two, and also explain why you're doing what you're doing, and the reasons for it. It slows you down dreadfully, and it may be some time before you gain any benefit from it. But you'll be giving her some real hands-on experience...
