What woodworking did you do today?

How do you make holes for pins like those?

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

I'm sorry I have taken so long to reply, a combination of having been away from my family since before Easter and having my mind on other things. The first suggestion is to make a small hawk out of a scrap of thin ply about 6" square. I used a piece of dowel or broom handle as a handle. Two...

    Birch ply, CP/CP

I'm considering building a bookcase from 40mm birch ply, core visible, surfaces quality white laminate. I have seen CP/CP birch ply is much more economical but is it the face that is lower quality or the core? Obviously I wouldn't want any voids showing.

'Este' Plane Restoration - 50mm Iron

I have used the cast iron top of my sawbench and planer thicknesser to stick wet and dry to for a reasonably flat surface. I have also got 10mm glass reasonably cheap. I have found that when flattening the sole two lengths of abrasive stuck end to end, or along piece cut from a roll, is much...

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

I only have a phone with me at the moment, I'm away from home. I never did it for a living but was taught by a plasterer who worked for Historic Scotland and taught in the States too. As soon as I have a slightly bigger keyboard I'll put pen to paper. I bought, still buy, my burnt sand from...

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

The chemistry I studied at degree level tells me otherwise, as does my past experience, but I use a different product. I also open tins carefully, cleaning both meeting faces with a lint free cloth before I start work. That is why these are available. I have never used them, but might have saved...

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

If the tin is half empty there is plenty of oxygen to start it setting up.

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

Whilst I agree generally with the rest of your post, in my experience, and I do tend to buy small, 500ml tins, even without added driers the linseed oil paint I buy skins over very quickly unless you manage to exclude the oxygen. You can lose quite a lot of the tin.

Nice. I have been using burnt sand mastic for years, i hate modern synthetic sealants.

    Finding a square square..

I was looking for a reasonably priced large try square. I thought the Shinwa might be worth trying but they state better than 0.1mm per 100mm. I thought that is quite a lot over a 60-90cm square.

I'm trying to find some Osage orange. It's a fairly common ornamental in Northern Italy. I have also cut some Persimmon branches which are drying.

Personaly I would use whatever you feel comfortable with.

Plunge saw - battery or corded?

I was hoping for more on the saws and less on the rails. I have two 3.1 batteries, can anyone tell me how well the TSC55 will work with them? Just for cutting up sheet material, I have a table saw.

    Spokeshave difference

I have bought a user Rapier, I'll see how it goes.

    Spokeshave difference

It's a genno or Japanese hammer which would retail somewhere between £100-£200 so it's worth the effort. I have some old ones too which I'd like to make handles for. I like to buy the best I can afford so that I know it will last and I hopefully won't want or need to upgrade in thr future-

    Spokeshave difference

The trouble is if I buy a cheap one I won't know if it's me or the spokeshave stopping me get a decent finish.
