    Clamps upgrade

I keep an eye on Amazon warehouse as I often find bargains. I know they are expensive but I do find the Bessey Revo excellent, and the Uniklamps too for smaller glue-ups.

    Wanted 3mm dovetail chisel

Yes thanks, I did see those. I hear AI highly regarded but apart from my splitproof bought back in the 80's I have no experience of English chisels.

    Wanted 3mm dovetail chisel

I like Japanese but have an open mind.

    Veritas skew block plane

This is why I thought it might be good for both a small shooting board and for finishing bench saw cut raised panels for doors.

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

I'm just home and went to take some photos but he is already tucked up in bed. I'll catch him tomorrow. I need to change his boundary as he can't see through the terracotta wall and spends all day trying to climb over it.

new to tracksaws, 800 or 1080 festool gide rail?

Good point, part of the reason for buying the tracksaw was wardrobes and kitchen units, 600mm deep.

new to tracksaws, 800 or 1080 festool gide rail?

I have 2 1400 rails but I'm going to make myself an MFT style top. Is there any practical difference between the 800 and 1080 rails on an mft top? Other than you can cut that extra 200mm.

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

He seems to have settled in. Likes blackberries, apple and frise but wont touch dandelion. I'm not sure if he is typical but spends a lot of time trying to escape by climbing a wall twice his length.

    Veritas skew block plane

I often make fielded panels and thought it might come in useful with the fence. I'm also considering it for a small shooting board and thought the skew might help.

    Veritas skew block plane

If you only had one normal size block plane is there any reason you wouldn't choose the Veritas skew block plane?

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

This is Italy, many don't have computers or smartphones, and the school had to lend them to pupils during the lockdown. We have no ADSL or mobile phone cover, so Facebook is unlikely to be of much help. The general consensus locally is that it has been let go. My neighbour told me she couldn't...

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

Our neighbour leaves hers in the garden over winter and it digs itself in under a bush. We get at least a meter of snow over winter.

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

He appears to have woken up, and yes, very active looking for a way to get out. Made one last check before going out and he had pulled himself up on his front legs. The extruded bricks are as tall as he is standing on his hind legs. He had his front legs and chin on the top of the block, back...

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

My wife came across a wandering tortoise on the way home, it was walking along the tarmac. She took it to a friend who has one already but the larger one was chasing the new one snapping at its legs so I'm guessing two males. I have made a small enclosure, just tall bricks on the grass and built...

    Tile levelling spacers

I'm in Italy where floor construction is always solid and virtually 100% of floors are tiled and always have been. Her in Italy, I have never seen a professional use them, even if they are available from the big companies like Rubi, Raimondi etc.

getting clean straight cuts in MDF

I used to cut by hand and clean up with a router with a straight edge made from a scrap of ply. I have finally bought a tracksaw and it makes the whole job fare simpler.

    Tile levelling spacers

If the floor is level and the bed of adhesive is uniform thicknes there should be no need for them. I tried using them on 60x60 porcelain and I cant say thry really made a big difference. I haven't seen any tilers use them. I think theyre a bit like artex, if you don't have the basic skills you...

Joint Genie - gone out of business? Best alternative dowelling jigs?

I have the JessEm, I find it very good. I don't use dowels very often and was lucky to get the imperial version at a very good price from Germany, nearly half price.

    Compressor for auto filter cleaning

Air dryer is considerably more expensive than water separator. There are an awful lot of cheap chinese separators on the market, make sure you get a good one.

    Repointing using lime mortar

Before I moved to Italy I would buy NHL 3 and 5 hydraulic lime, St Astier, and mix it myself. It was definitely more difficult to use than the European ready mixed varieties but if you made sure the background was damp enough, to stop the water being immediately sucked out of the freshly applied...
