    Experimenting with Japanese chisels

Gyokucho. Check Amazon.jp, far more economical than buying from Europe, prices are tax paid and here in Italy delivered in 4 days by DHL.

Is there any way of dating this chisel?

    Thank you. I guessed 50's or 60's.

If there is no hoop it is for paring. This is quite a compehensive explanation of nomi types. https://covingtonandsons.com/category/chisel-varieties/

    Sauter Shop and import taxes

I think this is a little unfair. Both the Italian post office and international couriers "calculate" VAT and handling charges in a totally random fashion. And here we pay these charges on all items from the UK irrespective of the value. So it isn't just UK customs. And is it in fact customs...

Is there any way of dating this chisel?

Thanks, I hadn't seen a 'marks' page. I have looked through some old catalogues but couldn't really narrow it down.

    Head torch recommendations?

Mine now doesn't stay adjusted, it slides through the plastic keepers but I've had it several years and it has been washed several times. The strap is available as a spare for my model.

Is there any way of dating this chisel?

Is there any way of estimating the age? I have had a look online but no luck.

Probably, so long since I last used it.

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

Quite apart from the cost, I wouldn't think throwing out 5 functioning drivers a very Green solution

Cordless tools - Best Platform To Choose?

I have done exactly the same. My last combi drill was an Elu. Having replaced my Elu routers with Festool, I tried the 10.8V Festool drill driver, then a cordless 55mm track saw which also replaces an 80's Elu "floorboard" saw and track, and yesterday I took the plunge and bought the TPC 18/4...

Facebook marketplace purchases and importing into EU

I buy fairly regularly from Amazon.UK and I have never had any issues. Often items on Amazon.it cost literally 3 times the price of UK, so it suits me. You just need to keep an eye on the pricing.

Facebook marketplace purchases and importing into EU

The only charge the customer VAT once. A £9.79 can of mitrebond becomes £9.96 for me in Italy, because our VAT is higher. I'd much rather have Amazon pay the actual VAT at source than pay a local courier €20 to calculate the tax at some invented, rounded up rate. The product is then delivered to...

    vintage chisels

It may be quicker but these are decorative through tenons.

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

I did have a look for adapters but couldn't find any.

Facebook marketplace purchases and importing into EU

It is no longer viable for me to buy from rhe UK. Most UK companies do not ship VAT paid, there are a couple of exceptions, once in Italy couriers add approximately €18 to calculate the VAT which is calculated on the cost of item and the shipping. So an item costing £5 can quite easily end up...

Facebook marketplace purchases and importing into EU

I buy a lot from Amazon.jp. I pay shipping duty and vat up front and well known brands like Shinwa, Gokucho, Naniwa andShapton can cost half the price of the UK.

    aftermarket replacement drill driver batteries

I can find many replacements but I was hoping for recommendations. There is a vast range of quality Li-ion cells out there.
