Veritas marking gauge looses its setting

Your overiding message always seems to be 'if it's good enough for Jacob it should be good enough for everyone else' , and we're not all the same. Some like to try the new, and the not so new like waterstones and pull saws, and make up our own minds.

    Setting up a bandsaw. RPBS12.

I bought and read 3 books before buying a bandsaw, I think Snodgrass does a very good job of the complete setup. I agree that if the saw has a fault the video probably won't help. The best instruction is to play with the saw, there is after all a lot of conflicting advice. I'm having a niggly...

    Bandsaw bearings

It still seems odd to me that the saw can't be made to work with the existing bearing. When I first used my Basa 1 I thought there wasn't enough adjustment in both the upper and lower guides but by adjusting the position of the blade on the top wheel it worked fine.

Veritas marking gauge looses its setting

I have a rosewood Marples gauge and have never got on with it, I much prefer a similar Japanese gauge with a knife rather than a pin. I also have the Veritas gauge which is not micro adjustable and has a solid stem, I would use it over the Marples any day. Every time I see the Marples I think I...

    Box

To be honest it has never really been a question of "enjoy making", more a question of if I don't make it how am I going to pay for it, or I can make it far better than the company who is going to charge me over the odds to make it.

    Box

A friend told me her husband had cut down a maple/plane type tree she planted 50 years ago. I called in this evening and asked for a few bits to put by to dry, about 30cm diameter. The husband told me that 25 years ago he cut down a box tree and had burned all but 3 pieces when he was told it...

    Wood tearout

Do you mind giving me a reference for the Swedish one? I spend over 100 euro on CMT professional blades anyway.

    Wood tearout

What blade do you use with your jig? I find it quite difficult to find a blade that gives clean square cuts when cutting box joints on the tablesaw.

    Wood tearout

There are plenty of 1/4" spirals available but not neccessarily 10mm wide. You will have to take more than one pass. https://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Down_Cut_2_Flute_228.html

    Festool Plug-It connector confusion

I may be wrong but even though it says no return UK consumer law says that you can return it within a certain period. Iwould have thought if it hasn't been described correctly this would be the case anyway.

    Bandsaw bearings

Having a similar setup with the basa 1 I agree with many others here. The blade needs to go further back. There is lots of conflicting advice on where to place the blade on the wheel. I now try to get the gullet centred on the wheel but it will depend on the width of the blade and the...

    UK power sockets outside UK

Living in Italy, where we have Shuko and 2 other types of plug, I have to have no end of adapters to suit every occasion. I have installed 13A UK sockets in various places throughout the house so that any device that has the powersupply built into the plug can be plugged straight in. I'd...

    Bandsaw bearings

No bearings as far as I can remember. I haven't used it for a while, just taken delivery of a Hammer N2 35.

    Bandsaw bearings

I will assume you are talking about the blade guides. I have a Basa1 and a large cast iron bandsaw for restoration. Carter products in the US have many kits but I don't think any Scheppach replacements. Scott + Sargent also have some relacements but probably too big. I found carefully set up the...

    best budget friendly palm router

Yes, I saw that too and although I wasn't sure if theUS and European models were the same it pushed me towards the Bosch. I went looking for a 1/4" collet for my European version it appeared the UK and European version collets are different.

Spindle Moulder Tooling for Sash Windows

That is an astragal and hollow I think? I had them in my house in Ireland. Had Titman make me cutters.

The mortar is there to keep the bricks apart.

    Sorry. Yet another boiler thread....

After a while, they do stop working properly. I have a PRV as I have a wood boiler, unvented. the first one worked for several years before I had to replace it. It is quite easy for a wood boiler to overheat, all it takes is a brownout.
