Is now a good time to go self employed

Hello all. I would actually like to throw in a different viewpoint, and one that should be carefully considered. At a time like this you need to look at what group will still be spending and why, and also the product too. There are people who will still spend, kitchens will still need to be...

    Indian Bean Tree (Catalpa bignonioides)

hello all Anybody know if I would be able to prune this tree now, as getting big. If I do, do I need to put anything on the stubs left from where I cut a branch off? Thanks in advance G

    Dodgy Door Frame

Spent the afternoon stripping back an old back door and frame to find that part of the bottom of the frame is rotten, but top part is fine. Is there anybody out there near portsmouth who knows anybody good to fix it, as I am pretty confident but never do anything to do with the doors on my...

    Job i've just finished

Great looking job!! Like it alot The only one thing is so much effort goes into a job like this and then somebody just leaves a crappy microwave on the edge of the top. Is there noplace for this to be hidden? G

    Wadkin Planer/Jointer restoration project

That would get my vote too. You could even get them just to do in an agreeable run out colour of a production run they are doing. Getting it shot blasted will get a great finish, you will have a real gem on your hands then.

    Fuji Q3 Pro

Noise is the primary. I have the standard blue one, it's great, but my god it makes some noise!!! I think the black has some noise cancelling, which if you are close to neighbours or your sanity if you are doing for a while then a little less ear bleeding helps.

    Bent MDF

Hello All Whilst standing back and looking at the top of my new built in wardrobe and admiring the fact that all the top and gaps aligned perfectly I then looked down to see that one of the 4 doors bows out at the bottom. So adjusted the hinges, checked the mountings and all staight and true...

    mdf

Where do you get pre car lac for this from? Suitable suppliers? As a general interest point I sprayed some farrow and ball oil onto MR MDF this weekend and the finish is awesome, 6 coats in total, 2 international sealer, 2 undercoat, and 2 oil eggshell. It looks like somebody else did it, not...

    How's Buisness?????

In lieu of some doom and gloom in the news I am curious (being an economist) to see what people are seeing on the ground in wood land? What are you seeing with your business and trade?

    Piano finish

Anybody know any waterbased finishes that can go through the HVLP. I have the Wickes gloss, and it's not bad, but any others? The ideal way is a black with clear coat, but I understand for paint purposes there is NO clear coat available. So that leaves some more scary chemicals to look at...

    Moisture resistant MDF

Hey, make sure you go for the all green stuff, not the allsorts kind that is a sandwich of green core and lift outer. There are loads of threads under finishing section of the forum on this. Key thing is when you come to paint it are: - Plane and sand the edges - Seal the edges with PVA...

need a quiet table mounted router

All, Interesting point this one, we all don't want to annoy our neighbours. What seems to be missed is that a lower power router may be quieter, but I am guessing if you are using it in a table you're not just trimming a little edge off something, you're cutting something a little more...

    MDF Type

Thanks Dan, I am going to get some all green for the face fronts that will be sprayed to make sure I hopefully have the best chance of obtaining a good finish.

Can you recommend a water based spray lacquer?

Oh dear, that's always the way. So anybody know where I can get some good Hydrocote style lacquer from? Any Waterbased finishes suppliers that do stuff for the car industry too. The order is going in for a Fuji HVLP later so want to find some good places to get some quality finishes. (Don't...
