First Chair Related Hurdle... A Split

Hi Custard, Thanks for the description above - very informative! Could you elaborate a little on the bit in bold please? A butterfly cleat might have six sides (or four sides and two ends depending on how you view it) why would you only bevel two? Is there an optimal two to pick?

Just arrived - knocking noise from Record Bandsaw(updated)

Looks a beast! Hope it works well for you. There are lots of forum users with Record bandsaws so hopefully one with a BS500 will pop in shortly and help you out.

Benefits of using a smaller saw blade on a table saw?

Biggest advantage is price surely? Just check what 12” blades cost compared to 8” ones.

    Wolf 'Locomotive' BS3 Belt Sander

I’d remove or otherwise mask that email address if I were you R. You don’t want to get spammed to oblivion I’m sure!

    Toy box/chest

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll have at it with the 112 and sand again (tonight if I get the chance). I need to re-file the edge as it wasn’t working properly last time I picked it up - think the edge has gotten out of square. I’ll post up pics when I come to it.

    Toy box/chest

I managed an hour in the shed this evening so I took the cramps off and gave the board a thorough sanding at 60g: I think that worked well as the glue line is not particularly noticeable (it’s in the middle of the pic below). There is an issue that I thought might have gone away with the...

    Wadkin 20" BZB bandsaw

I’m also interested in those left handed bits. Could you expand a bit more on how they’re used please Andy?

    Incra i-Box

I don’t know what an incra I-box is but I made a box joint jig for use with my table saw from a few bits of scraps in about half and hour. It gives me perfect box joints every time.

The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

Don’t know to be honest. Perhaps Richard will share a link if there is one when he’s next on?

The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

Six thousand and something from the auction plus donations from the day (they hadn’t been counted when we all sauntered off). Great fun and a worthy cause. What’s not to like?

    Toy box/chest

So I had another look at the boards, this time with some meths on to simulate a finish: I then decided I preferred Lion-o to snooty Dumbo, jointed the edges with my No. 7 and went for the glue up: Hopefully I’ll get some shed time tonight and finish that panel off. Apologies to anyone...

The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

A big thanks to Richard, Kate and everyone else involved in what was another smashing day out I’m sure everyone who attended would agree. A record amount was raised for Macmillan, people like Richard himself and Bill Carter shared their knowledge freely with us lesser mortals, a great time was...

    Toy box/chest

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think what I'll do when I'm back in the shed is put some meths on the boards to bring it closer to how it will appear once finished. I'll decide then (and probably post up a few more pics). Just need to make it in to the shed now :(

    my "saw" subject

Bob won’t axi send you a TS250? Lots of folks on here have one and most seem pleased with it (I have never used one I must say).

The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

Thanks everyone. I have an instagram and do actually follow Jim on that so will take a look. I originally got that account as my eldest daughter literally forced me to open it so I could like all her pictures/posts (which I dutifully did despite not knowing what most of them were about...

The 4th anual Macmillan cancer charity open workshop event

+1 from me. A great day out that is a highlight of the year for me. Quick question about the auction this year: is there any way of viewing it without resorting to joining the Facebook? I know I’m probably the last adult in the western world not on it but wondered if there was another way...

    Easy project for dovetail practice

Agreed on all that. Regarding the bit in bold; as you’re antipodean does that mean “the right way up” for those of us in the northern hemisphere? :D

    Toy box/chest

I quite like this thread the way it is to be honest bob but wouldn’t be surprised if the mods did some surgery on it anyway. On a more serious note though; I’m now off to Edinburgh for a week on a business trip so no shed time for me or progress on this for a while I’m afraid. Then next...

    Easy project for dovetail practice

Hi Derek, Also just for the record;I wasn’t seeking to attribute originality to either party, just stating honestly where I’d come across it first. I do fully agree with your other points regarding important aspects to get right, in particular getting the stock true (which Custard made...
