    Combination Squares

Almost useful then? I understand that there is a way of recalibrating certain combination squares where the lugs in the head stock are ground with needle files or similar but I have not done so myself. If it were me I’d establish a strategy for correcting its squareness to within acceptable...

    rippled beech?

Don’t worry bob, you can still have a UKW Cyprus meet up in August :)

    Best Planer Thicknesser Under £2000

I too prefer the rigidity of fixed tables and the zero chance of them getting knocked out of alignment. To be fair however, I think there is a price you pay for that in suboptimal chip extraction. I have the factory dust hood on my machine hooked up to a 2hp extractor and while it probably...

    Best Planer Thicknesser Under £2000

I have a Tersa machine and like it very much. I’ve never used a spiral cutter but some on here have stated that they are excellent at taming wild or highly figured grain - better than all the other alternatives apparently. I’ve yet to use such stock but plan to shortly so i suppose I’ll find out...

    Biscuit jointer.

I’ve got an old Lamello biscuit jointer and despite it lacking the bells and whistles of some newer models, I find it brilliant at what it does. The key thing for me with biscuit joints (mainly on panel glue ups) is that the slot must be cut in exactly the same plane as the reference surface...

    Awkward clamping problem

Wealden are my go to site for router bits. I’m sure they’ll have what you need.

    Clamp Refurbishment

Stop knocking Stelizs’ cramps you lot! The guy just wanted some pointers on how to sort out a tommy bar and he ended up with a bunch of us telling him they were pants anyway! Are we cramp snobs on this site all of a sudden (is that even a thing)? Anyway more power to your elbow Steliz - I also...

    My shaker kitchen build

Very nice indeed. The in-set doors make it look more like real furniture than a kitchen.

Your first car booty of the season

Nice. I have enough back saws to see me out otherwise I would of had that one too. I live in St. Albans and would be glad to help you sort the No. 6 out although I don’t think it will need too much. PM me if you’d like to catch up. PS - I didn’t play any “what’s this thing” card! He must’ve...

Your first car booty of the season

Thanks Ed. What’s a brayer? And you are correct about the iron being in the wrong way on that coffin smoother. Again I had it in my hands a few hours ago so I can say that with some confidence!

Your first car booty of the season

That’s a very nice Record 06 Graaz0r. I can say that with some certainty as as you handed it to me to look at while we were stood at the same stall, at the Hertfordshire show ground car boot at about 11am this morning! Yes, I was that enormous oaf in the shorts :). In fact it may have been at...

Hacksaws: How to choose 'em, how to use 'em, + other "stuff"

Hi Andy, Great tutorial and many thanks for putting it up. I went to my first car boot sale in ages today and with this post in the back of my mind, picked up the following: Are they the good ones you were referring to? The brands match but can’t make out if the red starrets are all hard or...

Your first car booty of the season

Had my first car boot for quite a while this morning. Here’s what I came back with:

    wood - price comparsion

Thanks Custard. I’ve seen Tyler’s website but have not been to them before. As you know I have had gloriously rippled maple from Bob at timberline in the past however. Neither are particularly close to me but I think Timberline are closer so will probably go down to them before I give Tyler’s a...

    wood - price comparsion

I’ve not tried them. Where abouts in South Mimms are they?

    wood - price comparsion

Yes - problem with them though is that you can’t select your own stock. You order the lengths your after and they deliver (fairly cheaply as well or free if you’re local) but you just get what’s next on the pile. That has put me off them, even though they have a wide range and fairly decent prices.

    Bandsaw on a trolley

Yep 352’s have small wheels that can be used for jockeying the machine around but as they leave only marginal clearance between the frame and the floor, your floor must be pretty smooth and flat to make good use of them. Mine came with a mobile base which I have kept and it gets moved around all...

    Toy box/chest

I managed a quick 45 mins in the shed so I sorted out the scraper plane and went at it: Seemed to sort out the worst of it. I’ll give it a sanding over the weekend and hopefully make some more progress - opportunity permitting.

First Chair Related Hurdle... A Split

Gotcha. Thanks Custard. So that would be both sides which contain an angle then (the ones which give it the butterfly shape).

    Toy box/chest

Thanks for the tip Ed. I am still thinking about which glue to use but was leaning towards hot hide as I haven’t tried it before. Some quick questions for you on that if you don’t mind; how many projects have you used your home brew liquid hide glue on? Do you find the salt alters the viscosity...
